California Rivals.com subscribers can get cash or credit from a class action settlement reached over allegations concerning the automatic renewal policy of the college sports website.

If you are a California customer who signed up for a Rivals.com subscription (either monthly or yearly) since March 31, 2013, you could get up to $20 or five months of Rivals.com subscription credit.

The Rivals.com class action settlement resolves claims that Yahoo! Inc. d/b/a Rivals.com automatically charged its members for subscriptions to the website on a recurring basis without obtaining their permission.

Filed in 2017 by plaintiff Andrew Wahl, the Rivals.com class action lawsuit also challenges the company’s practice of presenting the terms of its renewal policy in a “clear and conspicuous manner” as required by California’s Automatic Renewal Law.

Under the terms of the Yahoo class action settlement, Class Members will automatically receive either a three month or five month credit to Rivals.com within 45 days of the settlement being granted final approval.

For those customers who would prefer to have the three or five month credit align with the beginning of college football or basketball seasons, they must file a Claim Form by Nov. 6, 2018 and indicate if they want the credit to start on Feb. 1, 2019 or Sept. 1, 2019.

Class Members also have the option of receiving money instead of Rivals.com credits. Customers who subscribed to an annual Rivals.com membership can opt for $20 in cash, while those who paid for a monthly subscription have the option of receiving $10.

Those who would like to object to the settlement or wish to be excluded from its terms, must do so in writing no later than Nov. 6, 2018.

Who’s Eligible

All California residents who subscribed to Rivals.com and were charged on a recurring basis for their subscriptions since March 31, 2013.

Potential Award

$10 or $20 / 3 to 5 months of credit.

Class Members who file a Claim Form have two options to choose from. If they had an annual subscription to Rivals.com, they can opt to have five months of credit starting on Feb. 1, 2019 or Sept. 1, 2019, or they can get $20 cash.

Rivals.com consumers who bought a monthly subscription can ask for either three months credit beginning on Feb. 1, 2019 or Sept. 1, 2019, or they can opt for $10 in cash.

Class Members who do not file a claim for the Rivals.com class action settlement are still entitled to either three or five months of credit starting 45 days after final approval is granted.

Proof of Purchase

Consumers must provide their Rivals.com username and a Claim ID if they received one.
