GTL

Global Tel*Link Corporation and Cooper Communications Group Inc. have agreed to pay $725,000 to settle a class action lawsuit alleging they failed to pay appropriate overtime to field technicians, failed to pay wages on time with appropriate statements, failed to provide work and meal breaks, and failed to pay employees for missed breaks.

If you were employed by Global Tel*Link Corporation, Cooper Communications Group Inc., or specific subcontractors who provided field technicians to GTL in California any time between Oct. 6, 2012 and Dec. 31, 2017, you may be eligible for benefits from this class action settlement.

Plaintiffs Antonia Ortega and Ken Hagans alleged in their class action lawsuit that GTL and other related companies violated California employment law by requiring service technicians to work overtime and through breaks without pay.

“Defendants failed to relieve their Field Technicians of duty for timely meal breaks. Because of the nature of the Field Technicians’ work in correctional facilities, Field Technicians were often prevented from leaving their post or their duties for a meal break prior to the fifth hour of the shift,” alleged the GTL class action lawsuit

The plaintiffs also alleged they and others were not provided with itemized wage statements as well. The GTL class action alleged that the time-keeping system employees were required to submit if they worked in excess of 40 hours each week was extensive, requiring one to two hours to complete.

GTL and the other defendants deny the allegations, but agreed to the settlement to avoid the expense and uncertainly of litigation, according to settlement documents.

The deadline to opt out of or object to the GTL class action settlement is May 18, 2018.
