The FTC says $10 million in rebates are available for persons who lost money in a scheme by Advanced Tech Support.

Also known as Inbound Call Experts LLC, Advanced Tech Support has reached a settlement with the FTC and the state of Florida resolving allegations that it ran a telemarketing scheme to pressure people into buying tech support services they didn’t really need.

According to the FTC, Advanced Tech Support marketed its tech support products and services though online ads, search results, and partnerships with software developers. The company used high-pressure telemarketing to sign people up for hundreds of dollars worth of tech support subscriptions and services that they didn’t actually need.

Company representatives allegedly sold services by convincing people that their computers were infected with viruses and malware.

The settlement was authorized by a Florida federal court in December 2016. It imposes a $10 million judgment on Advanced Tech Support, to be distributed as partial refunds to hundreds of thousands of persons affected by the alleged scheme.

Among other terms, the settlement also prohibits Advanced Tech Support from misrepresenting any material fact in its future promotions of products and services. The company is also required to terminate its business relationship with any other company serving as a lead generator if it determines that business has been making material false representations.

The FTC has sent out email notice to persons eligible to collect partial refunds from this settlement. These emails, sent from the address subscribe@subscribe.ftc.gov, contain a claim number and a PIN that the claimant can use to request a refund.

Eligible claimants who prefer not to click on the link in their notice email can claim a refund using an online form or by calling the settlement administrator, Analytics Consulting LLC, at 1-877-793-0908.
