Loren D. Stark Co. Inc. agreed to a $750,000 class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims it failed to prevent a 2022 data breach that compromised sensitive personal information.
The Loren D. Stark Co. settlement benefits individuals who received a notification letter from Loren D. Stark Co. informing them their personal information may have been compromised in an October 2022 data breach.
Plaintiffs in the data breach class action lawsuit claim the company failed to implement reasonable cybersecurity measures that could have prevented the Loren D. Stark Co. data breach. As a result of this alleged negligence, the plaintiffs and other class members claim they had their sensitive information compromised.
Loren D. Stark Co. is a retirement plan consulting firm with locations in Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma.
Loren D. Stark Co. hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to the $750,000 class action settlement to resolve these allegations.
Under the terms of the Loren D. Stark Co. settlement, class members can receive up to $5,000 in reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses related to the data breach. Covered Loren D. Stark Co. data breach expenses can include fraudulent charges, identity theft costs, credit monitoring expenses, communication costs and other losses. Class members must provide documentation of these losses in order to receive reimbursement.
Class members can also receive a pro rata share of the net settlement fund. Exact payments will vary depending on the number of claims filed with the settlement, but class members can receive up to $70.
In addition to providing monetary benefits, Loren D. Stark Co. also agreed to take additional security measures to better protect consumer data.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is Dec. 17, 2024.
The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for Jan. 21, 2025.
To receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by Dec. 17, 2024.
