Workit Health agreed to pay $578,680 to resolve a class action lawsuit claiming it failed to warn consumers their medical information and website activity may be shared with third parties.

The Workit Health settlement benefits individuals who used the Workit Health website or application to search for medical information, fill out forms, schedule appointments, sign up for a membership, register for programs or pay bills between June 1, 2017, and Nov. 23, 2022.

According to the data privacy class action lawsuit, Workit Health used third-party technology on its website, which collected and shared certain information regarding users’ activities with those parties, such as Google. Plaintiffs argue that, due to this technology, their activity and protected health information was compromised while they used the Workit Health website.

Workit Health is a digital clinic that provides evidence-based care for substance use disorders.

Workit Health hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to the $578,680 settlement to resolve the data privacy class action lawsuit.

Under the terms of the Workit Health settlement, class members can receive an equal share of the net settlement fund. Payments will vary depending on the number of claims filed and other factors. No payment estimates are available at this time.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Dec. 23, 2024.

The final approval hearing is scheduled for Feb. 6, 2025.
