Details: The CertainTeed Organic Shingle class action lawsuit settlement covers most of the homeowners whose homes have CertainTeed organic shingles, their shingles are still under warranty, and the shingles show blistering, clawing, cracking, curling, cold weather curling, fishmouthing, or spalling damage. The CertainTeed class action settlement includes residents of the United States and Canada. If the CertainTeed shingles show blistering, clawing, cracking, curling, cold weather curling, fishmouthing, or spalling damage then they are typically considered “damaged” under the CertainTeed Organic Shingle class action lawsuit settlement. The warranty for the shingles varies from 20 – 30 years. The older the shingles are the less you’ll be eligible to claim as the amount decreases as the age of the shingles increases. Head over to the Settlement Administrator website for more details on what type of payment you may be able to receive. In addition, all CertainTeed shingles sold after 2005 are fiberglass shingles and are not included in the CertainTeed Organic Shingle class action lawsuit settlement.

CertainTeed shingles were also marketed under the brand names Hallmark Shangle, Independence Shangle, Horizon Shangle, Custom Sealdon, Custom Sealdon 30, Sealdon 20, Sealdon 25, Hearthstead, Solid Slab, Master Slab, Custom Saf-T-Lok, Saf-T-Lok, amd Custom Lok 25. However, not all shingles marketed with these brand names were CertainTeed Organic Shingles. The Horizon, Independence, Hallmark, and Hearthstead brands were marketed in both organic and fiberglass formulations. Also, all shingles CertainTeed sold after 2005 are fiberglass shingles. If your shingles are fiberglass, they are not part of the CertainTeed Organic Shingle class action lawsuit.

How do you know if you have CertainTeed Organic Shingles?

* Check your purchase or repair documents. You may have receipts, warranties, bills of sales, or brochures from when you purchased or repaired your shingles. These documents may say that CertainTeed Organic Shingles were installed on your property.

* The contractor or company that installed or repaired your shingles may know whether or not CertainTeed Organic Shingles were installed.

* See if you still have packaging material for the shingles. The roofer may have left a package of leftover shingles in your garage or basement and you may be able to identify them from the packaging.

* Ask a roofer. An experienced roofer may be able to tell by looking at your roof whether you may have CertainTeed Organic Shingles.

* Have a roofing professional remove a shingle from your roof and send it in to CertainTeed for identification. CertainTeed will reimburse you up to US $50.00 for the expenses you incur, but only if the shingles are determined to have been manufactured by CertainTeed.

If you submitted a warranty claim to CertainTeed (whether it was paid or not,) the claim process in the CertainTeed Organic Shingles class action lawsuit settlement is much easier as you won’t be required to submit as much documentation. If you have not submitted a warranty claim to CertainTeed you will be required to submit all or some of the following items:

a. At least one full shingle sample. Remember, if the shingle is determined to be covered under the CertainTeed Organic Shingle class action lawsuit settlement you’ll be eligible to claim the expense of hiring a roofing contractor to remove (and replace) the shingle sample (up to $50.) If the shingle is determined by CertainTeed to NOT be covered under the CertainTeed Organic Shingle class action lawsuit settlement you will not be reimbursed.

b. Photograph(s) of the roof. The larger and better quality the picture the more likely you will not be required to send additional photographic evidence of the CertainTeed shingles and damage to them.

c. An invoice from a roofer which shows that the shingles are manufactured by CertainTeed and are organic shingles covered by the CertainTeed Organic Shingle class action lawsuit settlement.

d. A letter or other communication from the CertainTeed Corporation which confirms that the shingles on the structure are from CertainTeed.

IMPORTANT NOTE! If you would like to be mailed a claim form just go to the Settlement Administrator website and fill out your physical street address in the “Request Information” section on the right hand side of the page. You’ll receive your CertainTeed Damaged Shingle class action claim form in 7 – 10 business days. You can also download a claim form for the CertainTeed class action by clicking on “Completing the Claim Form” menu button at the top of the CertainTeed Settlement Administrator home page. The quickest way to get your claim processed and to make sure it’s not delayed, if you haven’t received any warranty documentation from CertainTeed or a letter confirming you may participate in the CertainTeed Organic Shingle class action lawsuit settlement, is to submit the shingle sample. That way CertainTeed will be able to quickly validate that you have the shingles included in the CertainTeed class action lawsuit settlement. As always, make sure to fill out the claim form completely. If you haven’t received any warranty documentation you’ll fill out the “Standard” claim form in the CertainTeed class action. If you received warranty documentation and a claim form from CertainTeed then you’ll fill out the “Abbreviated” claim form. The claim process in the CertainTeed Organic Shingle class action lawsuit settlement is lengthy, but, it’s worth it. For every 100 square feet of roof covered by the CertainTeed Shingle Settlement you may receive up to $74. This adds up pretty quickly. So, if you’re covered in the CertainTeed class action head over to the Settlement Administrator now and submit your claim!

TCA Staff Tidbit: Shingles, Hammer and Nails on an Asphalt Shingle RoofReplacing a roof is a terribly expensive proposition for most homeowners. Thankfully it’s not one that we have to deal with every year. Most roofs are built to last at least 20 – 30 years. The CertainTeed Organic Shingle class action lawsuit settlement alleges that certain CertainTeed asphalt shingles were defective and deteriorated prematurely. Claimants in the CertainTeed class action can receive up to $74 per “square” for replacement shingles and labor to replace them. Each “square” is actually 100 sq. feet according to the CertainTeed class action settlement administrator. Keep that in mind when you’re calculating how much you may receive. Most homeowners who already submitted a warranty claim to CertainTeed will have received a claim form in the Damaged Shingle class action settlement.

Asphalt Shingles on a HouseIt’s also important to note that 95% of the CertainTeed shingles sold which are covered in this class action were sold in the Midwest area of the United States. Less than 1% were sold in Canada, though Canadian homeowners are includes in the CertainTeed class action settlement. If your roof has damaged shingles it would be worth it to ask your roofer if they were manufactured by CertainTeed. If they were, and it looks like you’re included in the CertainTeed Organic Shingle class action lawsuit settlement, your best bet may be to remove one full shingle and ship it in as the sample as required to submit a claim. Either way you have to replace the shingles on your roof, and if the roofer is wrong and they’re not covered under the settlement, you’ll only lose around $50 (the amount it would cost to remove one full shingle and replace it.) If the roofer is right, and you do have CertainTeed shingles covered under the damaged shingle class action settlement, then you may receive $100s or $1000s back. Head over to the Settlement Administrator and submit your claim in the CertainTeed Organic Shingle class action lawsuit settlement now.
