A settlement has been proposed in a class action lawsuit alleging that customers of Christine Valmy International School for Esthetics and Cosmetology were charged excessive prices for services that were provided by students of the school.
If you paid a fee for student-provided cosmetology, hairstyling and/or other services at the Christine Valmy International School for Esthetics and Cosmetology in Pine Brook, N.J., between Sept. 16, 2009 and Jan. 13, 2017, you may be entitled to benefits from this class action settlement.
Plaintiff Kathy Ciolino filed the beauty school class action lawsuit against Christine Valmy Inc., Marina Valmy De Haydu, Peter De Haydu, and CV Cosmetology Inc. d/b/a Christine Valmy International School, claiming the defendants violated New Jersey law by charging fees that exceeded the costs of materials used in the cosmetology, hairstyling and other services provided by students.
The defendants deny the allegations but agreed to settle the Christine Valmy class action lawsuit to avoid the burden and expense of litigation. Under the terms of the proposed class action settlement, the defendants will establish a $110,000 settlement fund, and will offer cash and service vouchers to eligible Class Members who file timely and valid Claim Forms.
The Christine Valmy class action settlement was preliminarily approved on Jan. 13, 2017.
Class Members who would like to opt out of or object to the Christine Valmy settlement must do so no later than April 21, 2017.
Who’s Eligible

Potential Award
$40 (estimated). The actual value of benefits claimants may receive will be based on the total number of Class Members who file timely and valid Claim Forms.
It is estimated that each eligible claimant will receive up to $10 in cash and a total of $30 in Service Vouchers that can be redeemed for student-provided services at the Christine Valmy school clinic. I called Kanes Furnitures Representative they only gave me 1877 number to call
They can’t charge because they are not licensed. The product fee is a reimbursement type charge in a school setting and therefore has no taxing involved. Hope this helps!
Wow this is crazy! I went to cosmetology school and It charged A LOT more than just the price of the products used! So basically it’s breaking the law for beauty schools to charge people for a hair cut? Bc a hair cut isn’t using any products.. Obv shampoo and conditioner and possibly products but the school I went to use these HUGE JUGS OF shampoo & conditioner that only costed maybe$6 A GALLON.. And what about men of they came in just to get a buzz cut and no shampoo? This kinda thing is just getting way too outa hand! I mean OK if u were really hurt by something then by all means take it to court and get what you deserve but things like this and stuff like “red bull didn’t give me wings! Pay up a hundred million dollars!” I just don’t understand… It’s sad really
