A $35 million General Motors fuel pump settlement resolves claims the company equipped GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado trucks with defective engine parts.

The settlement benefits consumers who purchased certain 2011-2016 Chevrolet Silverado or GMC Sierra diesel trucks from a GM-authorized dealership in California, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, New York, Pennsylvania or Texas between March 1, 2010, and Sept. 13, 2024.

Class members can check their eligibility using the VIN lookup tool on the settlement website.

The class action lawsuit claims GM sold trucks with defective fuel injection pumps that cause engine failure. These pumps allegedly generate metal shavings that contaminate the fuel injection system.

General Motors is an automotive manufacturer that sells vehicles under the Buick, Cadillac, GMC and Chevrolet brands.

GM hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay $35 million to resolve the engine defect class action lawsuit.

Under the terms of the GM fuel pump settlement, class members can receive between $6,356 to $12,712 for past fuel pump repairs that were not covered under warranty. Repair reimbursement will vary depending on the number of claims filed.

The settlement also establishes a 12-month warranty extension to cover 50% of repair costs for trucks with less than 200,000 miles. These payments may be around $5,000 but will vary depending on the actual repair costs.

Class members who no longer own their trucks and did not pay out of pocket for repairs can receive pro rata payments estimated to be between $400 and $800.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Dec. 12, 2024.

The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for Jan. 21, 2025.

To receive GM fuel pump settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form within six months of the final approval date. Based on the scheduled final approval date, the claim deadline is on or around July 21, 2025.

  1. Willie Johnson says:

Thank you i also receipt s of engine repair lifters shut down that fail we have r cost around 6000 out of pocket we can send copy of bill

  2. Brittany Wolf says:

I was about to jump on this because we have a 2016 Chevy Silverado high country and we just changed the fuel pump in it like 2 months ago. My husband is so frustrated because that truck is an extremely defective year model. However, it’s not diesel so we don’t qualify, but I think it needs to be look into further of all the people who have gas in that model.

  3. Shalane Gray says:

I purchased a GMC for my husband

  4. Larry Tomas says:

I bought my truck used in 2018 from a neighbor . A 2011. 3500hd Duramax diesel. Had little over 92,000 miles. Drove for over a year and the diesel injector pump went out. $9,000 for the repair.
The litigation states it had to be purchased from a certified GMC dealership. How does this work.
The litigation also said if I read it correctly, that the person that purchased the truck would be compensated for buying the truck and not having to replace the injection pump. Again how does this work??

  5. Pablo says:

They’ve narrowed the defective batch of pumps that went into a certain vin sequence block. Those trucks were the ones ordered in the designated states. If the truck was originally delivered to one of the mentioned states then transferred to a dealership in a different state then it should still meet the criteria. Knowing what state the truck was allocated to would require the original window sticker.
