New York City Parking Tickets

A settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit against the City of New York and the New York City Sheriff over outstanding judgments against vehicle owners who failed to pay their parking tickets between 1999 and 2009.

According to the NYC towing class action lawsuit, the defendants towed vehicles parked on the streets in order to satisfy judgments from unpaid parking tickets. The plaintiff alleges the defendants charged fees in excess of what was allowed by law.

The defendants deny any wrongdoing but agreed to settle the class action lawsuit to avoid the expense and uncertainty associated with ongoing litigation.

Under the terms of the proposed class action settlement, the City of New York has agreed to reimburse portions of the amounts the sheriff collected from vehicle owners and operators who failed to pay their parking tickets during the Class Period.

The New York City towing class action settlement was preliminarily approved on Dec. 2, 2015.

If you wish to exclude yourself from or object to the NYC towing class action settlement, you must do so no later than April 23, 2016.
