In the wake of the recent diesel emissions scandal, Audi is offering owners of Audi A3 2.0L TDI vehicles a Goodwill Package. If you are an owner or lessee of an Audi A3 TDI affected by the recent diesel emissions scandal, you may qualify to benefit from this Goodwill Package.

As part of the Goodwill Package, owners of the Audi A3 TDI may receive a $500 Audi Prepaid Visa Loyalty Card, a $500 Audi Dealership Card, and 24-hour Roadside Assistance for three years, at no charge.

The prepaid Visa card may be used anywhere that Visa debit cards are accepted. The Audi dealership cards may be used at any Audi dealership in the United States and Puerto Rico on items such as parts and accessories or toward purchasing or leasing a new or used Audi vehicle.

In order to participate in this program, affected owners will need to provide their Vehicle Identification Number, or VIN, to verify that their Audi A3 has been affected by the 2.0L TDI emissions scandal. Participants will also need to visit a participating Audi dealership, where they will need to present several items verifying that they are the owners of the affected vehicles. Such verification items include: the affected vehicle, a driver’s license, proof of ownership such as vehicle registration, title or lease agreement, and vehicle mileage.

Once the verification items have been validated by the dealership, the Goodwill Package will be activated. Participants should expect to receive the Visa card and Audi dealership card four weeks after registering for the program.

Audi has provided step-by-step instructions on what participants can expect about how the program will work.

This program is for those who owned or leased an Audi A3 2.0L TDI as of Nov. 8, 2015. Participants must register for the program by April 30, 2016.

Volkswagen has launched a nearly identical Goodwill program for VW 2.0L TDI owners who were affected by the diesel emissions scandal.

It’s important to note that Audi says that if you opt to participate in this program, you do not waive your right to take legal action against Audi of America or release claims already made against the German automaker.

Some attorneys told The Los Angeles Times that if customers do participate in the program that they shouldn’t sign the arbitration clause needed to get the money, saying that the automaker is trying to get around class action lawsuits that have been filed over the alleged diesel emissions scandal.

However, VW spokesperson Jeannine Ginivan said that those affected by the emissions scandal will not be required to sign anything that would force VW owners to give up their right to sue the automaker or force them into arbitration.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a notice of violation letter on Sept. 18, stating that approximately 500,000 Volkswagen TDI clean diesel vehicles were found to emit up to 40 times more toxic fumes than allowed under the Clean Air Act. The Audi A3 TDI was also included in the list of affected vehicles

Volkswagen and Audi allegedly installed software that showed better emissions standards during testing than emitted on a regular basis. Volkswagen said that the scandal likely affects more than 11 million VW diesel vehicles around the world.

On Nov. 2, the EPA issued a second Notice of Violation, which included six other Audi vehicles made with 3.0L TDI Clean Diesel engines. However, this Goodwill Package is not for owners of the 3.0L TDI vehicles.

Volkswagen and Audi have already been hit by several class action lawsuits over the scandal.
