Luxottica agreed to a $250,000 class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims a 2020 data breach compromised consumer information.
The Luxottica settlement benefits patients of Luxottica-owned or affiliated eye care practices whose personal information the Luxottica data breach may have impacted between Aug. 5-9, 2020.
According to a data breach class action lawsuit, Luxottica failed to protect consumer information from a cyberattack in August 2020 that reportedly compromised sensitive consumer information, such as Social Security numbers, financial data, health information and more.
Plaintiffs in the data breach class action lawsuit claim Luxottica could have prevented the breach through reasonable cybersecurity measures.
Luxottica is an eyewear retailer that owns brands such as Ray-Ban, Oakley, Persol, Vogue Eyewear and more. The company also owns and operates eyewear retailers, such as Sunglass Hut, Target Optical, Pearle Vision and more.
Luxottica hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay $250,000 to resolve these allegations.
Under the terms of the Luxottica settlement, class members can receive a cash payment based on the type of information compromised in the data breach.
Class members whose Social Security numbers or financial data were potentially impacted in the Luxottica data breach can receive reimbursement for out-of-pocket losses and lost time, as well as a pro rata cash payment and two years of free credit monitoring.
Class members whose Social Security numbers and financial data were not impacted in the data breach can receive up to $300 in reimbursement for out-of-pocket losses and lost time. Lost time payments can be for up to four hours at $20 per hour for a maximum of $60. California residents can receive an additional $50 payment.
The deadline for exclusion was Nov. 13, 2024. The deadline for objection was Nov. 4, 2024.
The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for Jan. 21, 2025.

When will the payments be sent it’s been a month an I have not gotten paid
Norton security says my info in on luxottica and I have had plenty of financial data among other personal info stolen
All I know is my information was breached. I’ve been with wells fargo since 2010. I have lost money, they wouldn’t honor the money I lost because they said it was me. I was on a plane Evacuation flight during pandemic. Barely got out. I was abused. They stole 800. From me. They wouldn’t help.
