Jeep class action settlement

FCA US LLC, formerly known as Chrysler Group LLC, has agreed to settle a class action lawsuit that claimed the internal fuel pump in certain Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles may fail causing them to stall without warning.

Lead plaintiff Peter Velasco filed the Dodge/Jeep fuel pump class action lawsuit over allegations that the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) installed in Durango and Grand Cherokee vehicles, model years 2011, 2012, 2013 is defective.

According to the Dodge/Jeep class action lawsuit, the manufacturer failed to warn car owners that the vehicles posed a safety hazard that could potentially lead to a crash. Plaintiff Velasco claims that symptoms of the fuel pump defect include:

  • Unexpected stalling
  • Difficulty starting the vehicle
  • Fuel pump that fails to turn off
  • Dead battery

The Jeep/Dodge fuel pump class action lawsuit alleged that the company should be required to fix the defect free of charge and reimburse consumers for any out-of-pocket expenses due to the faulty fuel pump.

FCA US continues to deny any wrongdoing but agreed to the terms of the Dodge/Jeep class action lawsuit settlement to avoid further litigation costs.

  1. David R. says:

Seems like we need to do an additional breach of settlement class action. They agreed to the recall yet are purposely holding back the parts to the dealers. My service guy at the Dodge dealer says they only receive 1 relay pump fuel switch and harness per week while they have a total of 100 cars waiting for repairs. Where is our loaner until our cars can be fixed. This is like Ford with the Pinto all over again. We know there’s an issue, but it’s too expensive to repair them all.
Let’s open a class settlement for breach of settlement.

    1. Olea says:

I agree I have been waiting months and per the various dealership, they are limited to one fuel pump relay supposedly each week. However, after speaking with three dealerships I was told none of them have received the parts or anything tied to the recall for 3-4 weeks and to try back in another month and hopefully they will have some better news and can try to schedule my Dodge to be fixed.

    2. Cassie Neely says:

Agree!! Now my catalytic converter messed up cause of it.

  2. JOHN B. MACCARTHY says:

MY 2012 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE STARTED HAVING THIS ISSUE IN THE PAST MONTH. THE DEALER FIRST ATTRIBUTED THE CRANK NO START ISSUE TO A FAULTY KEY FAB WHICH A $3 BATTERY FIXED. THEY THEN WANTED THE CAR FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOR TO DETERMINE IF IT NEEDED A NEW $1000 TIPM OR $800 FUEL PUMP. I ASKED THAT THE RECALL V62 BE PERFORMED PRIOR TO REPLACING ANYTHING AND THEY REFUSED AND INDICATED THERE WAS NO DIAGNOSTIC TEST THAT COULD DETERMINE IF THE FUEL RELAY WAS DEFECTIVE. A QUICK SEARCH OF THE INTERNET REVEALS AN ENTIRE INDUSTRY THAT HAS DEVELOPED TO TEST AND BYPASS THE FCA FUEL PUMP RELAY. AT THIS POINT FCA SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO BUY BACK ALL OF THE AFFECTED VEHICLES OR FIX THEM FREE OF CHARGE. HARD TO BELIEVE NHTSA HAS NOT INTERVENED TO DEMAND THAT THIS DANGEROUS PROBLEM BE FIXED WITHOUT ALL OF THE HASSLE OF DEALING WITH THEIR UNSCRUPULOUS DEALERS.

  3. Anne Avery says:

I have incurred expenses for diagnosis and repair of my 2011 Jeep Grand CHerokee due to the V62 fuel pump relay recall. I have submitted my receipts to the FCA for reinbursement but they have refused to reimburse me. They are in violation of this lawuit settlement. I would appreciate some help in this matter.

  4. Kerry Garthus says:

The initial recall parts failed and now they have no fix For this second recall. My daughter has been paying 500 a month payment on a car that won’t run and hasn’t since October of 2019. Jeep Corp will not reply to the dealership and will not give me a straight answer on anything. What do I do?

  5. Michele says:

I submitted all documentation to the attorney and never hear back. It’s been over 2 years and I meet the criteria to be reimbursed. What a joke!

  6. SRichie says:

this happened to my 2014 Jeep Cherokee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was in rush hour traffic and my car shut down on my busy/major road! near a body of water. this car has been problem after problem. its so bad.

  7. joseph says:

chrysler 200. Chrysler has admitted to using a additive in the cooling system at the factory which can eventually clog the heater core and radiator. Once the warrenty expires chrysler will not replace the heater core or radiator as advised, prompting a costly repair which chrysler initiated. (2011-2013)

  8. Karen williams says:

Chevy has the same problem Ana I have almost been in many crashes due to stalling . The other is after replacing with a new pump I get shortly after 6 mos a truck that won’t start .. Had it repaired and fuel pump yet again . Chevy is making faulty pumps and making lots of money now because the crap they are selling is unsafe and not lasting 6 mos and stranded everyone again .
