Details: The iPhone 4 settlement will resolve a class action lawsuit, entitled In Re: Apple iPhone 4 Products Liability Litigation, that alleges the iPhone 4 had an antenna design flaw that caused users to inadvertently kill the wireless signal simply by holding the phone a certain way. The class action lawsuit further charges Apple with misrepresenting and concealing information about the iPhone 4 in its marketing, advertising and servicing.
Apple denies the allegations, but has agreed to a class action lawsuit settlement to resolve the litigation.
Class Members of the iPhone 4 class action settlement include all original owners of an Apple iPhone 4 as of February 17, 2012. As a Class Member, you can receive one of the following settlement benefits:
Settlement Benefit #1: Cash Payment. Apple will provide a $15 cash payment to Class Members who meet the following requirements: (a) you experienced antenna or reception issues with your iPhone; (b) you were unable to return your iPhone 4 without incurring costs; (c) you were unwilling to use a case or free bumper for your iPhone 4; and (d) you completed the troubleshooting steps provided by Apple or were unable to complete the troubleshooting steps because you no longer own your iPhone 4.
If you no longer own your iPhone 4, you can still claim the $15 cash payment if you meet these requirements.
Settlement Benefit #2: Free Bumper. Since July 2010, Apple has offered a free bumper to iPhone 4 owners who have experienced antenna or reception issues. Class Members of the iPhone 4 settlement can continue to request a free bumper as described here.
