Avast agreed to pay $16.5 million to resolve claims that it shared consumers’ browsing data with third parties without first getting user consent.

The Avast settlement benefits consumers who purchased antivirus software from Avast between August 2014 and January 2020.

According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), Avast promised to protect consumers from online tracking that could compromise their information. In reality, Avast allegedly collected consumer information and shared it with third parties for profit without first obtaining consent.

Avast is an antivirus and virtual private network (VPN) software provider that offers free services and premium paid protections.

Avast settled the FTC lawsuit for $16.5 million, with part of the settlement funding refunds for more than 3.6 million affected consumers.

Under the terms of the Avast settlement, consumers can receive a refund if they purchased antivirus software from Avast. Payments will vary depending on the number of participating purchasers. No refund estimates are available at this time.

There is no exclusion or objection deadline for the FTC settlement.

The FTC settlement was granted approval in a consent order dated June 26, 2024.

I have a huge problem with the asked. I got a subscription in February of this year 2025. I only used it for a month they took control my phone. I did not have control of my settings they got stole or got rid of a bunch of my emails very important Laywer client emails and the misplaced emails. They It’s been a mess. It’s been bad. I had to contact Apple to try to fix things for me because I’ve asked had my phone all messed up. They were trying to go into my private settings, my privacy settings, Apple security settings, all kinds of stuff and Apple confirm that because I let them in my phone. I’ve asked tried to talk me into letting them have control of my phone to fix the problem in. There was no way I was going for that. I told him I wanted a refund and they’ve been putting me off for months and then they tried telling me I didn’t have an account with them and then they didn’t have any settings in my advanced app so I could even use their settings. It was. It’s been a big ordeal and nobody seems to wanna help me have ruined memories on my phone they took controls away from me. It’s been a mess and Apple had to fix it all for me and they confirmed that they were trying to break through apple’s safety measures. There’s a lot more than I can put on here that would take way too long. The point of the matter is I wanted to refund and they will. They’re not doing that. I have not used it. It’s the subscription is up in February 2026 that’s a couple months from now Three months, and I’ve had no protection or VPN or anything on my phone in months and months . I had to get them off of my phone. They were destroying everything I lost so many pictures of from the last 20 years because they just got rid of all my stuff. It’s been crazy. So they sent me an email today November 2025 saying that they were sorry that they took too long to get back to me. Sorry for the inconvenience and because of all that they’re closing my case what kind of crap is that they’re closing my case they never even talk to me and they flat said they were the ones who never have gotten a hold of me so they closed my case and they’re trying to make me go through some kind of thing if I wanna talk to them again, they’ve been doing this to me for months. I want my money back and I want them to not be able to do this to any more people. I have so much important stuff, memories, voyeur contracts, all kinds of stuff that they stole out of my emails. Store my money
