Delta Delta Delta Fraternity agreed to pay $150,000 to resolve claims it failed to protect members’ information from a 2024 data breach.
The Delta Delta Delta Fraternity settlement benefits individuals who received a notification from Delta Delta Delta Fraternity, Delta Delta Delta Foundation, Delta Delta Delta Park Street Properties or Delta Delta Delta National House Corp. informing them their personal information was or may have been compromised in a data security incident in March 2024.
According to the Delta Delta Delta data breach class action lawsuit, the fraternity failed to protect members’ information from a 2024 data breach that reportedly compromised sensitive information, including names, addresses, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, financial account information and more. Plaintiffs claim Delta Delta Delta Fraternity should have implemented reasonable cybersecurity measures to protect member information.
Delta Delta Delta is a national sorority with more than 250,000 members and more than 140 active chapters across the country.
Delta Delta Delta hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to the $150,000 settlement to resolve the data breach class action lawsuit.
Under the terms of the Delta Delta Delta Fraternity settlement, class members can receive a cash payment for out-of-pocket expenses and lost time related to the data breach. Class members can claim up to $5,000 for unreimbursed data breach expenses, such as fraudulent charges, identity theft costs, credit expenses and up to four hours of lost time at a rate of $20 per hour for a total of $80 in lost-time payments. Class members who did not experience any losses or lost time can receive an alternative cash payment of $75.
All class members are eligible for three years of free identity theft protection and credit-monitoring services. These services include identity theft monitoring, alerts, three-bureau credit monitoring, fraud resolution and identity theft insurance coverage for certain costs, identity restoration and unauthorized electronic fund transfers.
In addition to providing the benefits above, Delta Delta Delta agreed to take security measures to better protect member information. These improvements are valued at $86,300.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is Feb. 3, 2025.
