$1.7M R.R. Donnelley & Sons, Precision Dialogue Direct BIPA class action settlement

A $1.7 million class action settlement resolves allegations that R.R. Donnelley & Sons and Precision Dialogue Direct violated the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act by using fingerprint timeclocks without the proper disclosures.

The R.R. Donnelley & Sons and Precision Dialogue Direct settlement benefits individuals who worked at one of R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company’s Illinois locations, including Precision Dialogue Direct, and who registered for or used a fingerprint timekeeping clock between Aug. 26, 2017, and Jan. 29, 2024.

According to the class action lawsuit, the defendants violated BIPA by capturing, obtaining and disclosing finger scans without obtaining written consent. The companies allegedly collected these biometrics from employees using fingerprint time clocks.

R.R. Donnelley & Sons is a marketing, packaging, print and supply chain company based in Chicago. It has several subsidiaries that operate in Illinois, including Precision Dialogue Direct.

The defendants have not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay $1.7 million to resolve the BIPA class action lawsuit.

Under the terms of the Precision Dialogue Direct and R.R. Donnelley & Sons settlement, class members can receive an equal share of the net settlement fund. Exact payments will vary depending on the number of valid claims filed, but each claimant is estimated to receive $430.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Dec. 10, 2024.

The final approval hearing for the R.R. Donnelley & Sons settlement is scheduled for Jan. 8, 2024.

Class members must submit a valid claim form by Dec. 10, 2024 to receive Precision Dialogue Direct and R.R. Donnelley & Sons settlement payments.
