Rust-Oleum Corp. agreed to a $1.5 million settlement to resolve a class action lawsuit claiming its Krud Kutter cleaning products are neither “non-toxic” nor “earth-friendly” as advertised.

The Krud Kutter settlement benefits consumers who purchased certain Krud Kutter products between May 13, 2016 and April 17, 2025.

Plaintiffs in the Krud Kutter class action lawsuit claim Rust-Oleum falsely advertised its Krud Kutter products as “non-toxic” and “earth-friendly.” In reality, the Krud Kutter products allegedly contain harmful chemicals that are dangerous to humans, animals and the environment.

Rust-Oleum is a cleaning and home improvement company that sells Krud Kutter products.

Rust-Oleum hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay $1.5 million to resolve the false advertising class action lawsuit.

Under the terms of the Krud Kutter class action settlement, class members can receive a cash payment based on the number of products they purchased. 

Class members who have a receipt can claim an unlimited number of products for a $1 refund each. Class members without a receipt can claim up to eight products for a $1 refund on each and a maximum total refund of $8.

Payments may be increased on a pro rata basis to a maximum of $2 per product. Any residual settlement funds will be donated to a cy pres recipient.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is July 7, 2025.

The final approval hearing for the Krud Kutter false advertising settlement is Sept. 25, 2025.

To receive a settlement payment, class members must submit a valid claim form by July 7, 2025.

Consumers who purchased certain Krud Kutter products labeled “Non-Toxic” and “Earth-Friendly” between May 13, 2016 and April 17, 2025.
