Top Class Actions readers report settlement checks in the mail from six settlements with Google, Bank of America and other companies.

BioMetric Impressions BIPA settlement payments

Checks are in the mail from a $10.85 million settlement resolving claims that Biometric Impressions collected fingerprints and other biometrics in violation of Illinois law.

Top Class Actions readers report receiving up to $480.52 as of June 21, 2024.

The settlement was open to individuals whose fingerprint was collected by Biometric Impressions between Jan. 8, 2015, and Aug. 14, 2023, and whose fingerprinting services were not paid for by the state of Illinois.

Plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit claim that Biometric Impressions failed to provide the proper disclosures and obtain written consent before collecting consumer fingerprints. This biometric collection allegedly violated Illinois’ Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA).

Biometric Impressions agreed to pay $10.85 million to resolve the BIPA class action lawsuit. Under the settlement, claimants could receive an equal share of the net settlement fund, with payments capped at $1,000.

The deadline to submit a claim with the settlement was Feb. 22, 2024.

The Biometric Impressions BIPA class action lawsuit is Sayas v. BioMetric Impressions Corp., Case No. 2020-CH-00210, in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois.

Vee Pak discrimination class action settlement pays out

Top Class Actions viewers reportedly received checks from a $6.6 million settlement resolving claims that Vee Pak and several staffing agencies discriminated against African American workers.

Claimants reported this settlement paying out up to $756.84 as of June 24, 2024. 

The settlement was open to African American laborers who sought work assignments at Staffing Network who were not assigned to work at Vee Pak between Jan. 1, 2011, and Dec. 31, 2015; those who sought work assignments at Alternate Staffing Inc. who were not assigned to work at Vee Pak between Jan. 1, 2011, and Jan. 16, 2018; and those who sought work assignments at Personnel Staffing Group LLC, doing business as MVP, who were not assigned to work at Vee Pak between Jan. 1, 2011, and Oct. 21, 2013.

According to the discrimination class action lawsuit, Vee Pak wrongfully denied work assignments to African American laborers based only on their race. 

Under the terms of the settlement, class members could receive an equal share of the net settlement fund. Individual payments were capped at $5,000.

The deadline to submit a claim with the settlement was March 22, 2024.

The Vee Pak discrimination class action lawsuit is Eagle, et al. v. Vee Pak Inc., et al., Case No. 12 C 9672, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

Bank of America ACH fees settlement payments

Checks have been mailed from a $8 million Bank of America settlement resolving claims that the bank charged unfair ACH transfer fees on certain transactions.

Top Class Actions readers report receiving up to $9.61 from the settlement as of June 25, 2024.

The settlement was open to individuals who had a consumer checking and/or savings account with Bank of America and paid certain ACH transfer fees for push transfers to their own external account between April 4, 2018, and Nov. 17, 2023.

Plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit claim that Bank of America charged between $3 and $10 for transfers to consumers’ external accounts. These fees allegedly violated National Automated Clearinghouse terms which state that any transfer “can always be made for free”

Bank of America agreed to pay $8 million to resolve the fees class action lawsuit. Under the terms of the settlement, class members could receive pro rata payments based on the amount they were charged in ACH fees.

The deadline to submit a claim with the settlement was March 18, 2024.

The Bank of America fees class action lawsuit is Bruin, et al. v. Bank of America NA, Case No. 3:22-cv-140-MOC-WCM, in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of North Carolina.

Mayo Foundation privacy violations class action settlement

Our readers report receiving payments from a $52.5 million settlement with Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research resolving claims that the research foundation shared subscriber information without consent.

Claimants report receiving $586.72 checks as of June 26, 2024.

The settlement was open to Mayo Foundation subscribers whose information was included on the lists obtained in discovery that were transmitted to third parties between June 16 and July 30, 2016.

Plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit claimed Mayo Foundation shared their information with third parties without first getting their consent. This information sharing allegedly violated the Michigan Preservation of Personal Privacy Act.

Mayo Foundation agreed to pay $52.5 million to resolve the privacy class action lawsuit. Under the terms of the settlement, class members could receive an equal share of the net settlement fund. Settlement checks were estimated to be between $540 and $700.

The deadline to submit a claim with the settlement was May 15, 2024.

The Mayo Foundation privacy class action lawsuit is Schreiber, et al. v. Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research, Case No. 2:22-cv-00188-HYJ-RSK, in the U.S. District Court for the Western Michigan.

Build-A-Bear TCPA settlement payments

Checks are reportedly in the mail from a $4.1 million Build-A-Bear settlement resolving claims that the workshop bombarded consumers with text message marketing without their consent.

Top Class Actions readers report receiving a second round of payments from his settlement of up to $287.90 as of June 24, 2024.

The settlement was open to individuals who received two or more telemarketing text messages from Build-A-Bear Workshop within a 12-month period between Sept. 24, 2017, and March 28, 2023, after revoking consent, including by texting “Stop” or “Quit.”

According to the class action lawsuit, Build-A-Bear Workshop contacted consumers with numerous texts encouraging them to purchase the company’s products. Text recipients claim they did not consent to receive such messages, making them illegal under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA).

Build-A-Bear Workshop agreed to pay $4.1 million to resolve the TCPA class action lawsuit. Under the terms of the settlement, consumers could receive an equal share of the net settlement fund with payments capped at $500 per claimant.

The deadline to submit a claim with the settlement was July 7, 2023.

The Build-A-Bear TCPA class action lawsuit is Ruby, et al. v. Build-A-Bear Workshop Inc., Case No. 4:21-CV-01152-JAR, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri.

Google search referrer class action rebates

Top Class Actions readers report receiving payments from a $23 million settlement with Google resolving claims that it shared search queries with third parties.

Claimants say they received up to $0.12 as of July 5, 2024.

The settlement was open to Google Search users who clicked on a search result in the United States between Oct. 26, 2006, and Sept. 30, 2013. 

Google allegedly shared consumer search queries with third-party websites and companies without first getting user consent. These parties allegedly used this information for advertising purposes.

Google agreed to pay $23 million to resolve the class action lawsuit. Under the terms of the settlement, claimants could receive payments projected to be around $7.70.

The deadline to submit a claim with the settlement was July 31, 2023.

The Google antitrust class action lawsuit is In re: Google Referrer Header Privacy Litigation, Case No. 5:10-cv-4809-EJD, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.

    With regard to the BofA ACH fees. I was sent the notice. I never paid any fees. Nobody can explain why my name was included. Why does this continue to happen?

    Is this when the checks are supposed to be mailed out do anyone know about when they mail these checks out that they say that they mailed

      They will mail them three days before the expiration date. That is almost always the case.
      I never received a check from a class action that was not expired.

    When will I be notified about my class action lawsuit settlement checks how will I know if I made it on the list How Will I Know will I was I eligible I’ve never received anything after filling out all these ones that say the checks have been mailed and I have not received any of the checks
