Car Accident Overview

Car accidents are fairly common, and many people will be involved in one in some way or another in their life. These incidents can run from minor to severe, even costing people their lives.

Happily, there can be legal help for those involved in a car accident, and they can possibly receive compensation for injury suffered in the accident. Even if the accident was years ago, a skilled attorney can help a victim evaluate their options to gain compensation.

What Is a Car Accident?

When a motor vehicle collides with another vehicle, a stationary object, a pedestrian, or an animal, that occurrence is known as a car accident, a traffic collision, or a motor vehicle accident.

Injuries suffered in a car accident can include physical injuries, psychological trauma, and financial injuries including property damage and lost work and wages due to physical injuries suffered.

Unfortunately, some car accidents  have been severe enough to make headlines. These stories can tragically result in severe injury or death.

Recently, news in Fannin County, Ga. reported on the death of a Navy Veteran that occurred after his motorcycle was struck by an automobile, whose driver didn’t see the motorcyclist after turning onto a road.

In another instance in Georgia, a couple that was on the way to the hospital to give birth to a new baby were involved in a car accident that was so severe that they couple lost the baby. WSB-TV reports the father who was driving the car swerved to avoid a branch on the road, causing their vehicle to end up in the ditch. The couple were in a ditch for over an hour. Tragically, the expectant mother ended up with a broken neck and required an emergency cesarian section to assess her injuries, causing her to lose the baby. The expectant father suffered a broken pelvis and back injuries.

Though these cases are severe and shocking, some injuries suffered in car accidents can be harder to spot at first. In some cases, people who were in car accidents may not realize that they were injured for days, weeks, or months after the accident. An adrenaline rush or shock that a person may experience when they are in a car accident may mask injuries for a few days. In other cases, injuries like sprains may not become evident until a few days after the accident.

Some injuries that may be “hidden,” or harder to identify after an accident are herniated discs, traumatic brain injuries, cartilage injuries in joints like the knees and shoulders. In addition to physical injuries, psychological injuries may not be apparent immediately,

In any case, it is important to check for injuries after a car accident, even if the accident is minor. This can help those who were involved in a car accident get the help they need and will help them recover as quickly as possible.
