Consumers whose personal information may have been compromised during a Minted data breach may be able to claim about $43 without documented loss thanks to a $5 million class action settlement.
The Class consists of any United States resident with a Minted account, or those who provided Minted with their name, email and street addresses, or other personal information, via email, the Minted website, or other online communication on or before June 27, 2020.
A class action lawsuit filed over the Minted data breach alleged the company failed to take appropriate steps in safeguarding the consumer data stolen during the May 2020 incident.
Minted is an online marketplace that sells independent artists’ and designers’ printed art, linens, stationery, gifts, and other items.
The company denies all allegations of wrongdoing but has agreed to the settlement.
Under the terms of the Minted data breach settlement agreement, Class Members may submit claims for payment and/or credit services.
Those who are protected by credit monitoring services may sign up for additional protection.
Class Members filing a claim for payment are expected to receive an estimated $43, depending on the number of claimants who participate.
Class Members do not need to provide documentation of their losses or out-of-pocket expenses in order to file a claim for this payment.
Payment and benefits will only be available after the Court approves the settlement and after any appeals are resolved.
In addition to this relief, Minted also has agreed to change its data security practices to help protect the personal customer data in its database.
These steps include requiring more complex account passwords, filtering certain traffic, and providing annual security awareness training for employees, among other things.
A final fairness hearing in the Minted data breach settlement will be held Dec. 2, 2021.
The deadline to file a claim, opt out of, or object to the settlement is Sept. 16, 2021.
