Paxil Birth Defect Settlements May Increase

By John Curran

Paxil birth defectsAmerica’s northern neighbor could have a significant impact on Paxil birth defect lawsuits. The SSRI antidepressant is manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline, and the company has been paying hundreds of millions of dollars to settle Paxil birth defect lawsuits filed by American plaintiffs. However a recent Canadian judge’s decision could have ramifications here.

For some background, it is true that class action lawsuits are notably difficult for companies to fight. The sheer number of plaintiffs leads to an extremely high rate of settlements compared to other litigation types, and this will likely be the case in Canada as well. Not only does GlaxoSmithKline face an uphill battle in terms of Paxil pregnancy side effects, but it has the cash flow to make payments.

Any legal precedents there do not apply here in the United States; however, the tactics of Paxil birth defect lawyers in Canada may be useful here. More importantly, while class action settlements are sometimes lower than those for other trials, the preponderance of evidence could help women whose family has suffered as a result of SSRI antidepressant birth defects in the United States.

It may not matter all that much in any event, considering that 800 Paxil birth defect lawsuit settlements have been reached at a rate of about $1 million per case. A similar number in Canada isn’t likely; a review of prescription records and analysis of the population there indicates that about the same percentage of people face SSRI antidepressant birth defects there.

However, expect GlaxoSmithKline to be able to shoulder the burden, even as other manufacturers of similar drugs may fight these claims. As a multinational pharmaceutical company, there is simply too much money available to make these claims go away, especially given developments throughout North America that would cause them angst in the courtrooms.

If you or someone you know has dealt with the ramifications of Paxil birth defect side effects, get educated. Visit the Zoloft, Paxil, Celexa, Lexapro & Prozac SSRI Antidepressant Birth Defect Class Action Lawsuit Investigation and learn more about your legal options. While there, a short form connects potential plaintiffs to an experienced Paxil lawsuit attorney who can help them establish whether or not they are eligible to pursue a claim.

It won’t change the significant impact that birth defects can have on families, but it could help pay for any necessary medical treatments. Parents need to contact a Paxil lawsuit attorney now to figure out if a legal option makes sense for them.
