GranuFlo Lawsuit Seeks Compensation for Wrongful Death

By Andrea Gressman

GranuFlo/NaturaLyte heart attackA new GranuFlo lawsuit was filed on October 30, 2012 by Patricia Jones due to the death of Frank Eugene Jones. The GranuFlo lawsuit claims Fresenius Medical Care is responsible for Mr. Jones’ death after they marketed the product in a negligent manner. It was reported in the GranuFlo lawsuit that Mr. Jones passed away after experiencing a heart attack on March 3, 2010. Ms. Jones is Mr. Jones’ next of kin; therefore, she is able to file a GranuFlo wrongful death lawsuit to receive compensation from the death. The GranuFlo lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court, District of Massachusetts.

Both GranuFlo and NaturaLyte are popular concentrates used in dialysis treatments across the United States. However, in June of 2012, the FDA actually issued a Class I recall due to the extreme side effects the medications were responsible for. As a result, a number of GranuFlo and NaturaLyte lawsuits have been filed by victims as well as the family members of victims who have passed away as a result of GranuFlo and NaturaLyte’s severe side effects. Just like in the case of Mr. Jones.

Dialysis is frequently used in patients whose kidneys do not work properly. Because their own kidneys no longer remove the toxins from the blood it is necessary for the patient to receive dialysis treatment in order to do so. However, when dialysis occurs there is often an acidic build-up in the patient’s bloodstream and that is where the GranuFlo and NaturaLyte products kick in. It is their job to keep the acids in the blood stream at a healthy level. However, GranuFlo and NaturaLyte lawsuits claim that physicians did not mix the correct dosage when it came to GranuFlo and NaturaLyte concentrate and as a result patients experienced severe and sometimes fatal side effects. One of the main side effects of GranuFlo and NaturaLyte dosage errors is massive heart attack.

There have been strong developments in the current GranuFlo lawsuits that are very encouraging for the plaintiffs in the GranuFlo and NaturaLyte lawsuits. These GranuFlo lawsuit facts lead more support to the plaintiffs’ claims of GranuFlo and NaturaLyte side effects. Fresenius originally stated that they did not know about the side effect risks that GranuFlo was linked to. However, a New York Times article claimed otherwise. This publication stated that Fresenius knew of the side effects dating back to 2011 and the internal memo released in November 2011 by Fresenius confirms this information as well.

At this time there is no GranuFlo lawsuit MDL established. However, with the number of GranuFlo lawsuits being filed it is likely there will be one established in the future. The same goes for GranuFlo class action lawsuits. To date, there have not been any reports of GranuFlo class action lawsuits but they will soon be formed due to the sheer number of GranuFlo victims filing lawsuits.
