A Texas woman has filed a Benicar IBS lawsuit against Daiichi Sankyo and Forest Pharmaceuticals claiming her use of Benicar caused her many adverse side effects.
Plantiff Renetta I. of Texas began taking Benicar (olmesartan) in 2011 for hypertension.
She believes that as a direct result of taking Benicar, she suffered from nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and loss of appetite.
In this Benicar IBS lawsuit, Renetta claims that Benicar is responsible for her Benicar IBS symptoms.
She is raising claims of design defect, failure to warn, gross negligence, negligence, negligence per se, negligent misrepresentation, negligent design, fraudulent concealment, constructive fraud, fraud, breach of express warranty, breach of implied warranty, unjust enrichment and violation of the consumer protection laws of the state of Texas.
Side Effects: Benicar IBS
Too many Benicar users report suffering from serious gastrointestinal side effects such as Benicar IBS.
Because the symptoms are so similar, a lot of these patients are misdiagnosed with celiac disease, an autoimmune disease that affects the GI tract.
Benicar side effects do look very much like celiac disease and can include weight loss, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, Benicar IBS and electrolyte abnormalities.
The problem with misdiagnosis is that those who think they have celiac disease will continue taking Benicar without knowing the reason they have those symptoms is because of the drug.
Unfortunately, many patients already have long-term intestinal damage. Hopefully, increased awareness among the medical community and patients will circumvent any misdiagnoses in the future.
What is Benicar?
Benicar is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist drug. It is designed, manufactured, and sold by Japan-based pharmaceutical company, Daiichi Sankyo.
It was introduced to the North American market in 1995 and has been a popular drug ever since. Since 1995 it has been prescribed to over 11 million patients with high blood pressure.
But Benicar can come with some serious health risks, such as Benicar IBS.
The Food and Drug Administration released a warning for Benicar patients regarding the drug. It noted that Benicar users have suffered from sprue-like enteropathy, a serious GI condition.
Additionally, a study done recently found that among 22 Benicar users studied who experienced GI problems similar to celiac disease, none were predisposed to the disease.
Benicar users who were prescribed and consumed Benicar for at least four months and were then hospitalized for severe gastrointestinal problems like Benicar IBS may qualify to file or join a Benicar lawsuit or Benicar class action lawsuit.
The Benicar IBS lawsuit is Case No. 1:16-cv-05579 in the New Jersey District Court, Camden Office.
