Former USC gynecologist Dr. George Tyndall is facing more than 300 accusations of sexual assault by female patients at the university. Many more women may yet come forward with similar allegations. Indeed, during his employment at USC, Tyndall examined a total of more than 20,000 patients. Accusations date back to the 1990s.
If you have also suffered from sexual assault or abuse by Tyndall, your story is waiting to be heard. Coming forward with your own allegations can help contribute to criminal prosecution against the former USC gynecologist. Joining the growing pile of sexual assault lawsuits against Tyndall will also help USC compensate all those Tyndall assaulted while he was there.
USC Gynecologist Sexual Assault Lawsuits Filed
Multiple sexual assault lawsuits have been filed with allegations of sexual assault committed by the former USC gynecologist, Dr. George Tyndall. Now, more than 300 plaintiffs are included in this litigation.
The lawsuits allege that Tyndall repeatedly and regularly sexually assaulted female students that were his patients. Lawsuits allege that Tyndall touched female students inappropriately during their gynecological exams.
Specifically, one lawsuit alleges that Tyndall would make sexual comments about patients’ physical appearances and their genitals. He would also touch them in ways that weren’t medically necessary, the lawsuit claims.
To make matters worse, some of Tyndall’s patients were as young as 18, and many may never have had a gynecological exam before. This means that they did not have prior experience of a properly conducted gynecological exam to compare Tyndall’s behavior with and determine that it was inappropriate.
Plaintiffs say that while patients and medical staff complained through the years, Tyndall kept his job and his position of power, continuing to use that power to abuse his patients. In fact, lawsuits allege that the university actively worked to cover up these allegations.
On May 15, 2018, USC acknowledged the reports that had been filed over Tyndall’s behavior during his time at USC.
Tyndall was placed on leave in 2016 due to an investigation that found he made “repeated racially discriminatory and sexually inappropriate remarks.” At that time, USC began termination proceedings, but he responded by threatening legal action. In 2017, USC and Tyndall reached a settlement agreement, after which he left the university.
Lawsuits allege that the university did not do enough to protect students from Tyndall’s behavior. According to one lawsuit, “USC nurses, chaperones and other staff members were regularly present in the examination rooms, observed the inappropriate sexual molestation, and took no steps to stop it as it occurred.”
