Propecia (finasteride) has been prescribed to hundreds of thousands of men to treat male pattern baldness and other conditions. Despite its wide-spread use, thousands of men have allegedly developed erectile dysfunction and other sexual side effects.
As a result, hundreds of Propecia lawsuits have been filed against the drug manufacturer, Merck & Co., alleging that the baldness treatment caused the them to experience Propecia side effects such as loss of sex drive, low libido, and other symptoms of erectile dysfunction.
Propecia Background
So far, over 1,200 Propecia lawsuits have been filed against Merck. Some of these Propecia lawsuits involve multiple plaintiffs. Merck has been accused of failing to warn against Propecia erectile dysfunction.
It has been alleged that the drug manufacturer was aware of the risks associated with their baldness treatment but that Merck still failed to include the severity of Propecia erectile dysfunction on the warning label.
Merck was later required to add a warning to Propecia’s label reading that the drug could include possible Propecia side effects such as, “libido disorders, ejaculation disorders, and orgasm disorders that continued after discontinuation of the drug.”
The primary change in the label was that Propecia erectile dysfunction could be a permanent condition. Even though the label in America was only changed in 2012, it was changed in Sweden in 2008.
Propecia Lawsuits
Propecia lawsuits may help you win compensation for negligence, any medical costs, and loss of consortium. A plaintiff’s spouse may also file for loss of consortium, which essentially means the loss of intimacy with a spouse.
A Propecia multidistrict litigation (MDL) was created in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York in 2012. Men who were prescribed the drug as a baldness treatment or for other user may be qualified to file a Propecia lawsuit
Propecia lawsuits are continuing to be filed even though the announcement that Propecia side effects could include Propecia erectile dysfunction was made a few years ago.
Propecia (finasteride) has also been sold as Proscar. It was approved to treat male pattern baldness and BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia). Propecia side effects may include:
- Erectile dysfunction (ED)
- Loss of sex drive
- Impotence
- Low libido
- Inability to orgasm
