Another testosterone products lawsuits is joining the legal action over alleged low-T drug side effects.
This testosterone drug lawsuit was filed in mid-December by plaintiffs James and Christy B., a husband and wife from Louisiana. Their low-t drug lawsuit alleges that testosterone products caused James to suffer from a heart attack.
Low-t drugs are a type of drug designed to increase testosterone levels in men. As males age, their levels of testosterone and related hormones, called androgens, decline as a normal part of aging.
However, some males experience symptoms from this aspect of aging more severely than others, and suffer mood swings, a declining libido, and other symptoms allegedly caused by unusually sudden drops in androgen levels. The makers of low-t drugs state that their drugs can reduce these symptoms by supplying the body with artificial testosterone.
James took Depo-Testosterone, a low-t drug, in 2012, according to his testosterone products lawsuit. However, near the end of 2013, James underwent emergency medical treatment for a heart attack.
The low-T drug lawsuit claims that the heart attack was life-threatening and that James only survived due to emergency life-saving treatment by hospital staff. He was only 43 at the time of his heart attack.
According to the couple’s testosterone drug lawsuit, Depo-Testosterone was the cause of James B.’s heart attack — and scientific research backs this up.
According to the testosterone products lawsuit, androgen therapies have been known since their earliest human trials to alter blood chemistry. Specifically, they increase hematocrit levels, a blood parameter that promotes blood clotting.
While blood clots are a normal part of the healing process after injury, when blood clots form inside the blood stream, they can lodge in the blood vessels that feed critical tissues, leading to serious problems like a pulmonary embolism, stroke, and heart attacks.
The testosterone drug lawsuit further alleges that not only are these drugs dangerous, but that drug makers drummed up the “need” for a nonexistent condition with aggressive marketing.
Allegedly, the makers of low-t drugs like Depo-Testosterone have engaged in a practice called “disease mongering,” convincing the public that normal symptoms of aging are a “disease.”
To back this assertion, the testosterone product lawsuit states that both the defendant, and other drug companies selling low-t drugs, invested millions in advertising, which resulted in reaping a multi-billion reward in their investment in the form of low-t drug revenue.
The Testosterone Products Lawsuit is Case No. 1:14-cv-10197, filed within the larger MDL In Re: Testosterone Replacement Therapy Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2545, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division.
