Consumers whose homes have Allura fiber cement siding may be eligible to benefit from a $12.5 million class action settlement.

The Class is made up of anyone who owns a home that has Allura fiber cement siding manufactured in Plycem’s White City, Oregon, plant between Feb. 1, 2014, and May 7, 2014, or manufactured at the company’s Roaring River, North Carolina, plant between Feb 1, 2014, and Feb. 18, 2015.

Consumers can find the date and place of the Allura siding’s manufacture on the back of each board.

A class action lawsuit had alleged the Allura fiber cement siding is prone to problems such as cracking, bowing, shrinking, and breaking.

The defendants have denied the Allura fiber cement siding is defective but have agreed to a settlement to resolve the claims.

Allura sells a range of home construction materials, according to the company’s website, including siding, panels, trim, and soffit.

The Allura siding settlement covers claims for qualifying damage — cracking, bowing, shrinkage, warping, breakage, or gapping greater than 3/16 of an inch — in the siding as well as alleged property damage resulting from the failed siding.

Class Members filing a claim must choose one of three compensation options: replacement and repair, a quick cash option, or a cash option with proof of repair.

Those choosing the replacement and repair option will receive:

  • $1 per square foot toward the cost of primed fiber cement boards equal to the size of the replacement area
  • $4.75 per square foot of replacement area to contribute to additional repair costs, including installation labor, paint, home wrap, trim, and all other repairs and/or incidental work
  • An additional $200 if the total replacement area is 20 boards or fewer
  • A paint allowance of $1 per square foot for the entire elevation where the replacement area is less than 30 percent of the elevation

Claimants choosing the quick cash option will receive $4.25 per square foot of qualifying damage. This option provides compensation solely for siding that exhibits qualifying damage.

The claims administrator will pay 100 percent of the amount within 30 days of the claim receiving final approval.

Class Members may choose the cash option with proof of repair only if the qualifying damage does not exceed 30 percent of an elevation. The claimant will receive $4.25 per square foot of qualifying damage within 30 days of final approval.

If the Class Member then provides sufficient proof of repair for the entire elevation within the allotted time, they will be eligible to receive $4.25 per square foot of the remaining portions of the elevation.

A final approval hearing in the Allura siding settlement was held May 17, 2021.

The deadlines to opt out of or ask to be excluded from settlement have passed.

Claim forms must be submitted by 6 p.m. Pacific on June 21, 2023.
