UPDATE:

Direct purchasers of interior molded doors (IMDs) who bought from JELD-WEN or Masonite Corp. may be eligible to benefit from a $61.6 million class action settlement resolving allegations of price fixing.

The Class consists of all persons or entities that bought IMDs in the United States directly from either or both defendants at any time between Oct. 19, 2014, and Dec. 31, 2018.

Plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit alleged JELD-WEN and Masonite Corp. worked together to fix prices on IMDs, violating U.S. antitrust laws.

IMDs are a type of interior door constructed of a wood frame with a hollow or solid core between two doorskins made of a high-density mat and formed into a raised-panel design, according to the settlement website. This settlement also covers slabs and pre-hung doors.

Direct purchasers are those who buy directly from one or more defendants — as well as their subsidiaries, affiliates, and other related parties — rather than through an intermediary retailer, wholesaler, or distributor, according to Financial Recovery Strategies.

JELD-WEN and Masonite Corp. manufacture IMDs and other products that are available at home-improvement retailers such as The Home Depot and Lowe’s.

Each company is responsible for $30.8 million of the IMD direct purchaser settlement fund.

After attorneys’ fees and other expenses are deducted from the settlement fund, Class Members will receive a pro rata payment based on each valid claimant’s purchase of IMDs from JELD-WEN or Masonite during the Class Period.

Claim forms showing pre-populated amounts were mailed July 26, 2021.

The pre-populated totals on the claim form reflect the net amount after all adjustments are made for shipping, credits, and rebates; supporting documentation to be filed with the claim must also reflect these adjustments. Supporting documentation can include receipts, invoices, other proof of purchase.

Instructions for disputing this amount are included on the claim form.

The exact amount each Class Member will receive will not be determined until all claims have been collected and processed.

The deadlines to object to or opt out of the IMDs settlement have passed.

The claim deadline is Sept. 24, 2021.

Bought several of these doors in 2014. I dont tend to keep receipts for 7 or 8 years for anything I buy! Not many do this and this seems totally unreasonable to ask dating back as much as 8 years or so! Im sure it wouldn’t have been much on a return but there should at least be some kind of payout if you can give pictures of the doors. IDK if there is a way to identify them or not, none of mine have any markings and all 3 have been painted since installed 8 years ago! BTW when I applied for this these was no proof of purchase required at the time but now it says its required which means my claim will be rejected because I followed the rules at the time. I would have at least gave pictures if required at the time. Oh well!

  3. Marilyn Martinez says:

How do I go about getting a receipt for doors that were purchased between 2014 and 2015? I purchased 4 of these doors and would like to participate but not sure how? Maybe i could look at frames if there is numbers? Please contact me and let me know.2 were for my garage and two for bedrooms.
