Consumers who purchased a Joy/JM-branded My Little Steamer Go Mini or Deluxe that was subject to a recall may be eligible to benefit from a class action lawsuit settlement reached with Ingenious Designs and other defendants over alleged product safety concerns.

The class includes anyone who purchased a Joy/JM-branded My Little Steamer between Jan. 1, 2002, and Dec. 31, 2020.

Anyone who is a member of the Joy/JM-branded steamer class action lawsuit settlement class also is covered by a voluntary recall of the steamers, which is underway.

Defendant HSN reached this agreement with the Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada.

Plaintiffs in a class action lawsuit had claimed the defendant violated consumer protection laws, had breached warranty, and had become unjustly enriched by selling the My Little Steamer, which was allegedly unsafe for consumers.

The Court has not ruled in favor of the plaintiff or the defendants. Both sides have agreed to the steamer settlement in order to avoid the risks associated with ongoing litigation.

My Little Steamer class action lawsuit settlement benefits

The benefits under both the Joy/JM-branded steamer class action settlement and recall agreement are identical, and class members may only file one claim per steamer.

No duplicate claims will be processed.

Settlement class members who file valid claims for My Little Steamer models purchased between January 2018 and December 2020 will receive a full refund of the purchase price. Claimants must show proof of purchase, ownership, and destruction.

Class members submitting valid claims, including proof of purchase, ownership and destruction, for My Little Steamer Go Mini models purchased new between January 2015 and December 2017 will receive $8 for each unit.

Valid claims for My Little Steamer Deluxe models purchased between January 2015 and December 2017, accompanied by proof of purchase, ownership, and destruction, will result in a $12 cash refund.

Class Members filing valid claims on steamers purchased new before January 2015 or filing claims with no proof of purchase will receive an HSN voucher worth $8 for each unit for which proof of ownership and proof of destruction are provided.

The units must be defaced with a permanent and prominent marking, such as writing “RECALLED” or “DEFECTIVE” in black marker on the unit, and the unit’s electrical cord must be cut to make it inoperable. A clear, readable photo of the defaced unit or unit must then either be uploaded or attached with the claim form.

The defendants have stopped manufacturing, importing, distributing and selling the My Little Steamer in the United States.

A final approval hearing in the My Little Steamer settlement is scheduled for Sept. 10, 2021.

The deadline to opt out of or object to the settlement has passed.

There is no deadline for filing a claim.

Please read the instructions on how to get the whopping $8 refund. You have to show proof of purchase (which is insane because HSN doesn’t provide receipts) and take a picture of the steamer with the words above included and cut the cord. You can not just say add me, that does not do it. As for the person who said add me and asked how to track her payment you have to do all of the above mentioned to get your $8 and they will send you emails to update when the class action settles and when payment is sent.

Purchased 4 Little steamers years ago from HSN. One for each of my 3 daughters and one for myself. Can’t find receipts. How do I get voucher numbers? Any and All assistance will be appreciated.

I have the mini that I just used today – had no idea about lawsuit I actually only googled it about maintenance because I hadn’t used it in a while & $8.00 refund is insane. Also who keeps receipts? I know you don’t need it to get the whopping eight dollars back but I am pretty sure I spent much more on it. Does anyone know what the problem is?

  10. Paulette Bonds says:

I feel the same way regarding the $8.00 refund. I purchased the my little steamer and the go mini and they sent me a voucher for $16.00. I purchased the product in good faith and I expect you to refund me for the purchase I made,, not by the year I purchased it (10-25-14). I cannot purchase another steamer for $16.00. I am very disappointed with refund and with joy
