The settlement benefits current and former African American deputy U.S. marshals who were subjected to USMS promotion policies under the Merit Promotion Process, Management Directed Reassignments and Headquarter Division assignments between Jan. 23, 1994, and Nov. 27, 2023. The settlement also benefits current and former African American deputy U.S. marshals, detention enforcement officers or applicants who were subjected to USMS hiring and recruitment policies for deputy U.S. marshal positions between Jan. 23, 1994, and Nov. 27, 2023.
