Sharp drawer microwave comes with fire risk.

UPDATE: The Sharp Microwave Drawer Oven Class Action Settlement was granted final approval on January 7, 2021. Let Top Class Actions know when you receive a check in the comments section below or over on our Facebook page. Please note that claims will more than likely not be paid until after the claim deadline passes.

Sharp microwave drawer oven owners may be eligible for $250 cash or a $500 voucher from a settlement resolving claims that the appliances contained a malfunctioning defect.

The settlement benefits individuals who purchased Sharp microwave drawer ovens or were the first person to own a residential property in which one of the units was installed between Jan. 1, 2009 and Aug. 5, 2020.

Plaintiffs in the Sharp microwave drawer oven class action lawsuit claimed their appliances were manufactured with a serious fire-risk defect that could cause property damage. Allegedly, Sharp failed to warn consumers about this defect.

“The Microwaves all contain a defect, described in detail infra, that makes them unreasonably dangerous, as they are susceptible to catching fire, and unsuitable for their intended use,” one Sharp class action lawsuit contends.

When the Sharp microwave defect manifested, consumers could allegedly see “arcing” from the appliance. This is reportedly evidenced by sparks or flashes seen within the microwave drawer while in use. A buzzing noise or smoke could allegedly be accompanied by these flashes or sparks.

Sharp has not admitted any wrongdoing but has agreed to resolve the claims against them in a settlement deal.

There are several options for relief under the Sharp microwave drawer oven class action settlement, including extended warranties, cash benefits or vouchers, and reimbursements.

Class Members can choose between a replacement Sharp microwave drawer oven, a $250 cash payment or a $500 voucher for use towards any Sharp-branded product.

On top of these benefits, claimants can recover reimbursement for labor costs of up to $150 for microwave repairs or inspections and up to $200 for repairs of adjacent cabinetry may be available to Class Members.

Additionally, Class Members can receive a warranty extension from one year to five years under the settlement. This covers only arcing events.

In order to benefit from the settlement, Class Members must file a valid claim form by May 7, 2021 (for Class Members whose five-year Limited Extended Warranty expires before Jan. 7, 2021) or within two years of a documented arcing claim (for Class Members whose five-year Limited Extended Warranty expires after Jan. 7, 2021).

The deadline for exclusion or objection is Nov. 17, 2020. The final approval hearing for the settlement is Jan. 7, 2021.

We send all documents and pictures they ask for on there website after all that they denied my claim we get our attorney and we will see them on court soon

  2. Mad says:

I think Sharp is rejecting all claims. No real recourse. So the lawyers make out and Sharp makes out by denying any claim.

  3. Rose says:

My Sharp drawer microwave just caught fire. Is it too late to be added to the Class Action?

  4. Andy says:

The description on topclassactions is misleading. Everyone who qualifies gets an extended warranty. Then, only is you experience an arcing event are you eligible for the replacement, cash or coupon. As I read the settlement agreement, you aren’t entitled to receive any of the benefit sunless you had a documented arcing event.

    1. Amy says:
