Customers who ate at a Milan, Illinois McDonald’s last summer may be entitled to a portion of a $500,000 class action settlement for being exposed to Hepatitis A.
The class action lawsuit settlement stems from a health scare last July in which the Rock Island County Health Department announced that people who dined at the McDonald’s restaurant located at 400 West 1st Street in Milan, Illinois, between June 1, 2009 and July 15, 2009 may have been exposed to food and drink tainted with the Hepatitis A virus. The health department recommended all persons who ate at that McDonald’s location during those dates or who were exposed to a person who had done so to receive immunoglobulin (”IG”) shots. The compensation from the class action lawsuit settlement is meant to reimburse customers the cost of obtaining the shots and the value of lost time required to obtain the shots.
If you received an immunoglobulin (“IG”) shot as a result of possible exposure to Hepatitis A in Milan, Illinois between July 15, 2009 and August 31, 2009, you have until September 30, 2010 to submit a valid claim form. Those who wish to exclude themselves from the class or object to the class action settlement have until August 27, 2010 to do so. Those people who received the shot but did not contract Hepatitis A are entitled to file a claim for this class action settlement. If you did fall ill with Hepatitis A, you cannot submit a claim. This is a separate lawsuit from the legal action filed by customers who contracted Hepatitis A from eating the tainted Milan, Illinois McDonald’s food and drink.
More information on the McDonald’s Hepatitis A Shot class action lawsuit settlement, and directions on filing a claim form, can be found in the class action settlement notice. You can also download a claim form here.
