Lawsuits Over Propecia Side Effects Mount

By John Curran

Propecia side effects in menA spate of Propecia side effects lawsuits filed by plaintiffs throughout November indicates that more people are aware that they are not alone in experiencing sexual dysfunction and cognitive difficulties. However, it also shows that the drug, made and marketed by Merck & Co., has persistent effects on men that the company should have reported, according to Propecia lawsuit lawyers.
The claims all feature Propecia sexual dysfunction side effects, with some also alleging that former patients have difficulties remembering things and processing information. In addition, the majority indicate that patients are still dealing with these conditions long after they stopped taking the hair-loss drug. A small-scale study indicated that Propecia side effects lasted on average for four years after men stopped taking the drug.

Worse, Merck & Co. was aware of this and warned patients in other countries, but not in the U.S. The company did nothing to fight changes to its product label when the Swedish equivalent of the FDA indicated that irreversible Propecia sexual dysfunction side effects risks were an issue. This continued in several other European countries following the Swedish change in 2008. In the U.S., however, the New Jersey-based company only changed the labeling in 2011, and the FDA had to force the firm to include a number of sexual issues.

Propecia mental health problems are also a key threat to men, as well as women, who take the drug, with an incidence of four in five patients. A related study was released in 2006. Despite this, Merck failed to change the labeling until 2010. Propecia lawsuit lawyers have alleged that not only are these risks persistent, but that company officials have continued to drag their feet in properly warning American patients.

This has continued even when Merck has updated labeling in other countries. Unfortunately, many men throughout the world would not have benefited from the studies after 2000, as the drug had already been on the market for years. However, anyone who has taken the hair-loss and enlarged prostate medication does have legal options available.
