Troubling Testimony in J&J Ethicon Vaginal Mesh Lawsuit Trial
By Andrea Gressman
J&J Official Provides Disturbing Testimony in First Vaginal Mesh Implant Lawsuit
The Johnson & Johnson official, Scott Ciarrocca, is providing testimony in an attempt to defend Ethicon, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson and the manufacture of the GyneCare Prolift. He is currently a project leader for the company and in his recent testimony he went on to say that Johnson & Johnson discovered that the GyneCare Prolift vaginal mesh implant failed 27% of the time within a year of the device being surgically implanted. Again, very concerning news for those who have a vaginal sling implant such as the GyneCare Prolift.
Details of Vaginal Mesh Implant Lawsuit
The vaginal mesh implant lawsuit is referred to as Gross v. GyneCare Inc., Atl-L-6966-10. It was originally filed by Linda Gross, age 47, who is a South Dakota resident. Gross claims that Ethicon did not properly warn people of the side effect risks linked with the vaginal mesh implant, which is used as a treatment option for pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and stress urinary incontinence. Gross alleges in the GyneCare Prolift lawsuit that she has had 18 surgeries in order to correct injuries she sustained after receiving the vaginal mesh implant in 2006.
Hundreds of Women File Vaginal Mesh Implant Lawsuits Due to Severe Side Effects
Gross’ vaginal mesh lawsuit is only the first of at least 1,800 cases that are pending and waiting to begin their own trials. These plaintiffs all have similar claims and have either received a vaginal sling, transvaginal mesh, vaginal mesh, or a bladder sling implanted through a surgical procedure. They also have reported a variety of severe side effects. Some of these include the following:
- Bladder infections
- Mesh erosion into the vagina
- Organ injuries
- Pain during sex
- Pelvic organ prolapse
- Perforations within the bladder, bowel and blood vessels
- Urinary problems
- Vaginal scarring
- Vaginal infections
