Rue La La Inc. has reached a class action lawsuit settlement over allegations it sold gift certificates with deceptive and illegal expiration dates. If you purchased a voucher from Rue La La’s website, www.RueLaLa.com, on or before May 3, 2013, you may be eligible to claim an account credit equal to the amount of money you paid to purchase the qualifying Rue La La voucher.
The Rue La La settlement was preliminarily approved by a Massachusetts federal court on Nov. 13, 2014. Plaintiffs in the Rue La La class action lawsuit (Mirabella v. Rue La La Inc.) accuse the members-only shopping website of violating a federal law which requires gift cards and gift certificates to remain valid for a minimum of five years, or a Massachusetts law which requires they remain active for seven years.
Rue La La denies any wrongdoing but agreed to settle the class action lawsuit to avoid the expense and uncertainty of going to trial.
As many as 7.5 million Rue La La members are estimated to be included in the Rue La La class action settlement.
Who’s Eligible
Class Members of the Rue La La class action settlement include all persons in the United states who, on or before May 3, 2013, purchased from RueLaLa.com a voucher redeemable for goods and/or services that contained an expiration date.
To be a qualifying voucher, the Rue La La voucher must be an internet-based voucher that could have been redeemed for goods and/or services sold by or via Rue La La through www.ruelala.com, and that was not redeemed or could not be redeemed due to the expiration date.
A qualifying voucher does not include a voucher that was:
(1) Redeemed at a merchant for its paid value; or
(2) Previously refunded by Rue La La or a merchant; or
(3) Redeemable for a specific event on a specific date; or
(4) Redeemable for any travel-related services, including but not limited to lodging, cruising, or transportation services.
Potential Award
Varies depending on how much you paid for an eligible Rue La La voucher.
Class Members who submit a valid claim will receive an account credit to their Rue La La account equal to the amount of money they paid to purchase a qualifying voucher. The account credit is redeemable for any future on-line purchase from RueLaLa.com, including but not limited to any voucher, and will expire five years from the date that the account is credited.
Please be advised that in order to receive the Rue La La account credit, you must open or maintain an account with Rue La La no later than 90 days after the class action settlement has become final.
Proof of Purchase
To receive this account credit, settlement Class Members must either attach a copy of their qualifying voucher or list the order number and purchase date of the voucher.
You must also certify, among other things, that you were unable to use the paid value of a qualifying Rue La La voucher because of the voucher’s expiration date.
