Bright House Networks settlement

A settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit alleging Bright House Networks LLC violated antitrust laws by requiring Premium Cable subscribers to lease a set top box. If you subscribed to Bright House Networks for digital cable at any time between Feb. 2005 and Aug. 2014, you may be eligible for benefits from the class action settlement.

The Bright House Networks class action lawsuit was initially filed by plaintiff Karen Parsons on Feb. 10, 2009. She alleges she has been a subscriber to cable television services provided by BHN since at least 2008, and that she purchased digital cable and paid fees for the rental of BHN equipment.

According to the BHN class action lawsuit, Bright House Networks requires residential premium subscribers to lease one of its set-top boxes as a condition for receiving the full value of their services. Parsons alleges BHN has market power in cable services that allows it to penalize subscribers who elect not to lease the set-top box and to require subscribers to lease the box to avoid the penalty. She alleges this conduct violates the Sherman Antitrust Act.

Bright House Networks denies the allegations but agreed to settle the class action lawsuit to avoid the expense and uncertainty of ongoing litigation.

Who’s Eligible

Class Members of the Bright House Networks settlement include all persons in the United States who subscribed to Bright House Networks for residential cable and paid BHN a monthly rental fee for an accompanying set-top box from Feb. 2005 through Aug. 19, 2014.

Potential Award

A $30 account credit for current customers or a $20 cash payment for former BHN customers.

If you are a current customer of Bright House Networks, you will receive a $30 account credit for services you are not currently subscribed to. To receive this credit, you must elect the services to which it should be applied by submitting an Election Form to BHN through the class action settlement website no later than April 15, 2015.

If you are a former customer of Bright House Networks, you must submit a Claim Form postmarked no later than April 15, 2015 in order to receive a $20 cash payment from the BHN class action settlement.

  1. K. says:

Just received my $20 check as a past subscriber.

  2. Rose Farrugia says:

I filed the claim form when I received the notice of a Class Action suit against Bright House. I am still waiting for my $30 account credit and we know nothing of when this law suit was settled! I tried calling the #1-800-585-2001 but it does not get me anywhere. What a joke! Can we get some kind of information as to what happened?

  3. Karen Hankinson says:

I just received the claim letter that wrongly states that I am a current Bright House customer. I am a former customer and should receive the $20 payment.

  4. John Nole1 says:

It won’t accept my account #. I have attempted this damn format 3 times and if you call the 800# it is a recording that give you the information on the lawsuit. You can’t talk to a person or representative. I am frustrated, aggravated and angry. If these bastards jack me around over this lawsuit. I’ll file one on my own, for mental anguish and aggravation. Best of luck to you all. Thanks. JJS.

  5. Brandy says:

I am a current member and it won’t accept my account number. I copied it directly from the site.

    1. Brandy says:

I called the number provided and I received a call back from a representative. Brighthouse changed the account numbers and the rep was able to assist me. They are wanting me to apply the $30 credit to Epix. I never heard of that channel before.
