Ticketmaster Ticket Fee Class Action Settlement

Ticketmaster Entertainment Inc. has agreed to a $400 million class action settlement over allegations it illegally overcharged customers certain fees when they purchased tickets from the Ticketmaster website. If you bought tickets from www.ticketmaster.com between Oct. 21, 1999 and Feb. 27, 2013, you could be entitled to benefits from the Ticketmaster class action settlement.

The class action lawsuit was initially filed by five Ticketmaster customers who alleged that the company’s order processing fees and UPS expedited delivery prices for tickets are deceptive and excessive. They allege that Ticketmaster’s description of its fees led customers to believe that they were necessary to cover Ticketmaster’s costs in processing orders, even though they were unrelated to the actual costs of processing orders and served as a way to generate profits for the ticket seller.

Ticketmaster denies the allegations, but has agreed to settle the class action lawsuit to avoid the burden and expense involved with ongoing litigation. The Ticketmaster class action settlement was preliminarily approved on April 30.

Who’s Eligible

Class Members of the Ticketmaster class action settlement include all customers who purchased tickets from the Ticketmaster website from Oct. 21, 1999 through Feb. 27, 2013, and who paid money to Ticketmaster for an Order Processing Fee (OPF) that was not fully refunded. Customers who purchased UPS delivery in connection with the purchase of tickets over the Ticketmaster website are also members of the UPS Subclass.

Class Members must have been residents of the United States at the time of purchase.

Potential Award

Class Members will receive a discount code worth $2.25 for each ticket purchased during the Class Period to be used for future ticket purchases from the Ticketmaster website. Class Members can receive a maximum of 17 OPF discount codes.

UPS Subclass Members will receive an additional discount code for a $5 credit against their next UPS charge when ordering tickets from the Ticketmaster website. UPS Subclass Members will receive one discount code for each purchase made from the Ticketmaster website for which they arranged to have their tickets shipped via UPS. UPS Subclass Members can receive a maximum of 17 UPS discount codes.

UPDATE: The settlement website has been updated with the following information: “Beginning on or around April 25, 2016, and ending on or around June 18, 2016, Class Members in the Schlesinger v. Ticketmaster Class Action Settlement will be sent via email a notice regarding Discount and Ticket Codes. Please be patient while notices are sent. UPDATE 2: On June 19, 2016, Top Class Actions readers who submitted timely and valid claims for the Ticketmaster settlement began receiving ticket codes for concert events.

UPDATE 3: On June 21, 2016, Ticketmaster settlement Class Members may have noticed that their voucher codes disappeared yesterday. According to Ticketmaster, this was because the eligible list of events was not available yet. However, as of this afternoon the Ticket Code Dedication Site appears to be active.
Ticketmaster has also provided this link to Class Members to address any other questions related to using their ticket vouchers.

None required. 

Claim Form Deadline

No claim form is necessary. Class Members will automatically receive discount codes via email. If your email address has changed, you will need to update your email address at the Ticketmaster settlement website.
