VW Audi Oil Sludge Class Action Lawsuit Settlement
By Matt O’Donnell

VolkswagenAudiThousands of Volkswagen and Audi owners have started receiving class action settlement notices in the mail regarding problems with engine performance and failure from oil sludge. If you’ve ever owned or leased a 1997-2004 Audi A4 or 1998-2004 Volkswagen Passat, you may be eligible to receive certain benefits from the class action lawsuit settlement.

The VW and Audi oil sludge class action lawsuit alleges that the 1.8 liter turbo engines in these vehicles were overly prone to the formation of oil sludge and coking deposits. These deposits cause engine performance to deteriorate and cause abnormally high incidences of engine failure even when maintained according to the manufacturer’s maintenance recommendations. The oil sludge class action lawsuits further charged Volkswagen and Audi with failing to honor an 8-year unlimited warranty extension that was instituted in 2004 after the companies began receiving consumer complaints about the oil sludge problems.

You’re considered a class member of the VW and Audi oil sludge settlement if you’ve ever owned or leased one of the following vehicles:

* Model year 1998-2004 Volkswagen Passat equipped with a 1.8 liter turbo engine

* Model year 1997-2003 Audi A4 or A4 Cabriolet equipped with a 1.8 liter turbo engine

* Model year 2004 Audi A4 or A4 Cabriolet equipped with a 1.8 Llter turbo engine

As a class member of the VW oil sludge settlement, you’ll have the opportunity to request reimbursement of unpaid claims for oil sludge related engine repairs and engine replacements, as well as certain reasonable associated expenses under the 8-year/unlimited mileage extended warranty offered by VW and Audi in August 2004. If you can provide proper documentation, you’ll receive a 100% reimbursement of your last two required oil changes. If you can’t provide proper documentation, you’ll receive a 50% reimbursement of your last two required oil changes.

All oil sludge settlement class members who currently own or lease one the Class Vehicles will also receive revised oil maintenance recommendations.

Current owners and lessees of 2001-2004 model year Class Vehicles will also be eligible for an enhanced oil sludge warranty extension (10 years/120,000 miles) based on specific conditions.

Current owners and lessees of 2001-2004 model year Class Vehicles will receive a $25 discount off the price of an oil and filter change on their vehicle.

If you wish to receive any of these benefits from the Passat and A4 oil sludge class action lawsuit settlement, you must submit a valid claim form, and proper documentation if you have it, by June 27, 2011. You will have until February 3, 2011 to object or exclude yourself from the settlement.

Hello, I owned my Audi and had two engines die on me due to sludge in the engine which was documented by the dealership. I also sent in all my paperwork that Audi sent me. I never got anything in return. Had to sell a $16,000 car for $2000 because the engine was dead and Audi wouldn’t replace or repair. I tried calling several law firms that Audi referred me too and got I response. I finally gave up. I still have all of my paperwork and am very saddened by how much money this cost me and how bad Audi ignored me to not have to pay me for my losses. I ended up having to buy a new car for work after I had already paid off my Audi. So what do they care. They got there money and I got nothing. I see people are still having issues in 2018. My name is Natalia Osadchuk and my e-mail is NataliaOsadchuk@yahoo.com and I feel I am owed compensation. I am sure I will be ignored again although I thought I’d try.

Someone please help me. I purchased a 2005 VW Passat in 2007 it had 28,000 miles. When I hit 42,000 miles I got an alarm and light saying “stop engine low oil pressure”. I took it to the shop and was told I had a lot of engine sludge, I’m not sure what was done but I didn’t have the problem again until 72,000 miles and that’s when I had to get the engine replaced, it literally made me sick. I still had a car payment and to get the engine replaced cost me $7,000 (used motor). I search everywhere trying to find information on this problem. A few years after i got the engine replaced I found information about the recall but I was told by VW that my car was not included. I then got a card in the mail telling me that my car required synthetic oil nd the card was to replace the page in the owners manual (this should prove my car had the same issue or why would VW send this). At least every month or so I search the internet to see if there is any new info about the sludge issue praying I’ll find something that can help me get reimbursed. GUESS what has happened now?? I was on the way to work and I got “Stop engine low oil pressure” I’ve never felt so sick in my life. I can’t beluve this is happening to me again. I’m sure some of you would’ve gotten rid of the car but I couldn’t afford it not after replacing the engine. I just got it out of the shop and the mechanic told me he had to clean out some part I think he said an oil pickup screen. I beg of you if you have any suggestions of ways to approach this please tell me. I was thinking about a lawsuit but I don’t think VW would do anything for by myself. aparkodu12@gmail.com

    Thanks,
    Amy
