Enterprise Proposes Airbag Settlement
By Kimberly Mirando

Enterprise Rent-A-Car is close to settling the class action lawsuit we told you about in May. If their proposed settlement is approved, more than 100,000 owners of certain used Enterprise vehicles may be able to claim a $100 voucher that can be used for renting or buying something else from Enterprise.

To refresh your memory, a class action lawsuit filed April 18, 2010 accusing Enterprise of ordering new 2006-2009 Chevy Impalas, Chevy Cobalts, Chevy Heritage High Roofs (HHR) and Buick La Crosses without the standard side-impact air bags, saving the company an estimated $175 per vehicle. The class action alleged Enterprise then failed to tell consumers when they purchased these cars used from the company that the vehicle did not contain the advertised air bags.

The vehicles included in the class action lawsuit are:

2006, 2007, 2008 Chevy Impalas

2008, 2009 Chevy Cobalts

2009 Chevy Heritage High Roofs (HHR)

2006, 2007 Buick La Crosses

Enterprise has offered to settle the class action lawsuit for $14 million. In addition to the $100 vouchers, the company has also proposed mailing out yellow stickers that warn “No Side Curtain Airbags,” which owners can place on their cars when they decide to sell them.

An estimated 130,000 people are eligible to claim the voucher from the class action lawsuit settlement, whether they bought directly from Enterprise or from a dealer who acquired the cars at auction. We’ll keep you posted if the Enterprise Airbag Class Action Settlement is approved, and when a Settlement Administrator’s website is made available.
