Seniors portrait of contemplative old caucasian man looking at camera. Copy spaceA West Virginia man filed a testosterone lawsuit against AbbVie and its parent company, Abbott Laboratories, for allegedly causing him to suffer a heart attack.

Plaintiff Kevin M. claims in his testosterone product lawsuit that as a direct of using the defendant’s testosterone product, AndroGel, he developed a serious cardiac attack.

Kevin’s physician had prescribed him AndroGel on Dec. 12, 2012 over concerns he had about his testosterone levels.

Many aging men associate testosterone deficiency with stress, weight gain, muscle loss, and libido loss, which has caused the low testosterone (low-T) therapy market to stay as vibrant and active as their customers.

Kevin had followed this regime, and had stuck to all prescription instruction and physician advice while taking the product in question. Initially, Kevin had responded well to the testosterone replacement therapy and the product had worked for its intended purpose.

Unfortunately, this abruptly changed when Kevin suffered a heart attack on July 16, 2013. He was hospitalized and immediately taken off AndroGel. Medical records indicate that the testosterone replacement therapy product may have contributed to the heart attack, with recent studies indicating that there is a prevalent risk.

Despite the importance of this information, Abbot Laboratories had allegedly chosen to omit this information from the drug’s label.

Therefore, Kevin is choosing to file the testosterone lawsuit against Abbot Laboratories for failing to protect him against the dangers of their low-T product.

The plaintiff’s lawyers state that the defendant had the civil responsibility of warning their client and other AndroGel patients of all potential dangers attached to their product. Kevin insists that he never would have used AndroGel if he had known about the potential risks.

For being allegedly responsible for manufacturing, selling, distributing, and marketing a dangerous product, Kevin is suing Abbot Laboratories. The charges include: negligence, false advertising, concealing information, and misrepresenting a product.

This Testosterone Product Lawsuit is filed In Re: Testosterone Replacement Therapy Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2545, in the U.S. District Court of Northern Illinois.

Overview of Testosterone Replacement Therapy Complications

For generations, men have been wary of deteriorating testosterone levels as it often indicates fading youth. While testosterone dispersion does cause side effects like lethargy and decreased sex drive, these side effects are also associated with aging.

However, low-t manufacturers have used these side effects of their marketing niche to convince men that they needed their products, to prevent testosterone loss. These low-t products were advertised to not only increase sex drive, but muscle mass, activity levels, and provide an overall improvement of quality of life.

Unfortunately, it has recently been discovered that low-T products can induce potentially fatal cardiac attacks in patients. This concern was first brought to the attention of the medical community, when a 2013 study in JAMA indicated that older men with heart conditions could be at risk for these sudden attacks.

This research was followed up by another study published in PlosOne medical journal on Jan. 29, 2014, which found that younger men with heart conditions were at risk for testosterone linked heart attacks, and older men were at risk regardless.
