nuvaring-pseudotumor-cerebriWomen using NuvaRing birth control may be at risk of developing pseudotumor cerebri, a condition that mimics the symptoms of a brain tumor. Birth control lawsuits may be able to help patients win compensation for the pain and suffering caused by birth control side effects.

A pseudotumor essentially means “false tumor.” It is the increase of intracranial hypertension which leads to symptoms that may cause patients to believe they have a brain tumor. Intracranial hypertension is the increase of cerebrospinal fluid (which protects the brain).

The fluid is supposed to be reabsorbed back into the body and is always being produced. Pseudotumor cerebri occurs when the body fails to reabsorb the cerebrospinal fluid.

This can lead to numerous side effects. Birth control lawsuits may claim that birth control medications including NuvaRing cause complications such as severe headaches or migraines, changes in vision, nausea, vomiting, and more.

Although intracranial hypertension is a relatively rare condition, it can drastically alter the life of the patient. Because of birth control side effects, women may have to decrease intracranial hypertension by having the cerebrospinal fluid drained from their skull through a spinal tap. Some intracranial patients have had a shunt surgically inserted into their skull as a form of treatment.

The exact cause of pseudotumor cerebri is not exactly known, but studies have shown increased numbers of pseudotumor patients among birth control users when compared to non-birth control users.

Birth Control Side Effects: NuvaRing

NuvaRing is a circle shaped contraceptive that a woman inserts into her vagina. After three weeks, she removes the device. Many women may choose this form of birth control because of its ease of use and the fact that they do not have to take a daily pill.

However, some users have complained in birth control lawsuits that it can cause pseudotumor cerebri. The drug manufacturer allegedly did not adequately warn that its product could lead to this painful side effect.

Birth control lawsuits may be able to help victims of pseudotumor cerebri win compensation to pay for medical treatment, pain and suffering, or other damages caused by NuvaRing or other birth control.
