Continental Tire Class Action Settlement

By Sarah Pierce

If you own or lease a Chrysler, Dodge or other vehicle with Continental tires, listen up: You could receive up to $360 from a class action settlement.

Continental Tire America, Inc. agreed to settle a lawsuit accusing the tire manufacturer of selling defective tires. According to the class action settlement notice, certain Continental tires (listed below) that were sold between 2003 and 2008 incur abnormal and premature treadwear, often requiring replacement within the first 20,000 miles of use. The class action lawsuit alleges Continental knew about these tire defects and failed to disclose it at the time they were marketed, warranted and sold.

The tires that are eligible under this class action settlement are:

P215/65R17 98T ContiTouringContact with Conti*Seal

P225/60R18 99H ContiTouringContact with Conti*Seal

P225/60R18 99H ContiTouringContact without Conti*Seal

To be included in the class action settlement, you must have purchased or obtained these tires as new, which includes purchasing or leasing a vehicle on which the tires were installed as original equipment or purchasing the tires as proper replacements during this time period. The following Chrysler and Dodge vehicle models from model years 2003 to 2008 are known to be affected by this class action settlement (but other vehicles may also have the tires):

Chrysler 300 Dodge Magnum SXT

Chrysler 300 Touring Dodge Magnum R/T

Chrysler 300 Limited Dodge Charger SE

Chrysler 300C Dodge Charger SXT

Dodge Magnum SE Dodge Charger R/T

If you qualify as a class member, you can receive between $15 and $90 per eligible tire, depending on the size of the tire, the number of miles driven on the tire, and other factors. To claim your money under this class action settlement, you must submit a claim form by September 15, 2010. For more information on the Continental Tire Settlement, visit www.tiresettlement.com.
