viagra melanoma skin cancerA Viagra lawsuit has been filed by a North Carolina man who was diagnosed with melanoma skin cancer after using the popular erectile dysfunction medication. The Viagra lawsuit claims that the skin cancer diagnosis was directly caused by Viagra and that the drug manufacturer failed to warn against this potentially deadly side effect. This is just one of many Viagra lawsuits that has been filed against Pfizer Inc. concerning melanoma allegations.

Plaintiff Roy F. originally filed the Viagra lawsuit in mid-June. At this point in time, the plaintiff has already undergone multiple surgeries and tests because of Viagra melanoma. Roy used Viagra for about seven years as a treatment for erectile dysfunction. He is one of millions of men who have been prescribed the “little blue pill” for erectile dysfunction treatment. He was diagnosed with melanoma skin cancer in July 2012, according to the Viagra melanoma lawsuit.

While he was able to have the melanoma removed, Roy claims in the Viagra lawsuit that he will have to continue to have his skin tested as the disease has a relatively high rate of recurrence. These Viagra side effects will have to be looked for and treated for the remainder of the plaintiff’s life.

Claims in this Viagra melanoma lawsuit include negligence, failure to warn, faulty manufacturing and design of drug, breach of warranty, and others. A jury trial has been demanded for this case.

Lack of Viagra Melanoma Skin Cancer Warnings

The multi-billion dollar drug has been widely-prescribed across the nation to men who wish to treat their erectile dysfunction. While erectile dysfunction is a normal side effect of aging, Pfizer has created a huge market for Viagra.

However, the Viagra lawsuit points out that Pfizer has spent billions on Viagra advertising, but has not spent anything on informing people about potential Viagra melanoma skin cancer side effects. The Viagra lawsuit states: “Pfizer does not note on the current label for Viagra that the drug may be associated with the development of exacerbation of melanoma.”

Studies published as early as 2011 have suggested that Viagra can increase the risk of melanoma. A study published in JAMA Internal Medicine found that Viagra use increased the risk of melanoma skin cancer by as much as 84%. It was determined that more research was required in order to make a definitive claim about Viagra side effects.

Viagra Lawsuits

Melanoma is the rarest form of skin cancer, but it is also the deadliest. Millions of men are put at risk of Viagra side effects every year without being aware that the “little blue pill” could lead to a potentially deadly cancer.

Awards from Viagra lawsuits may help alleged victims, such as Roy, obtain compensation for the costs of medical treatments, time lost from work, emotional and physical pain and suffering, and other damages.

The Viagra Melanoma Lawsuit is Case No. 1:15-cv-00481, in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina.
