The judge overseeing multiple testosterone product lawsuits has scheduled a case management conference for July 9. At the meeting, representatives of over 1,500 plaintiffs who have filed testosterone product lawsuits in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois will discuss the ongoing litigation. The testosterone products lawsuits consolidated in this MDL claim that various low testosterone treatment options have caused serious side effects including heart attacks.

The testosterone product lawsuits were consolidated into an MDL (multidistrict litigation) with the intention of making the legal proceedings run quickly and smoothly. One judge will preside over all of the complaints and will make decisions that affect all lawsuits involved in the MDL.

Low testosterone treatment lawyers are optimistic about the upcoming meeting, anticipating that “the Court will address a number of matters relevant to our clients’ claims, including those pertaining to motions practice and the ongoing case selection process for bellwether trials.”

Bellwether trials are individual cases pulled from the MDL and tried separately. They allow some plaintiffs to have earlier court dates, but the primary function of a bellwether trial is to avoid duplicate discovery and allow both sides to gauge how a jury might respond to the evidence brought forth in court. While the verdict is binding on the individual testosterone product plaintiff, it does not determine the outcome of the remaining claims. The verdict may, however, affect settlement negotiations.

Millions of men across the nation have been given testosterone gels, creams, pills, and injections in order to treat their low testosterone levels. Many of these men have experienced cardiovascular side effects, including heart attack and pulmonary embolism.
