eliquis-pillsAn Alabama widow is pursuing an Eliquis lawsuit against Bristol-Meyer Squibb and Pfizer Inc., the drug’s manufacturers, alleging her husband used this popular new generation anti-coagulant and suffered extreme injuries that led to his untimely death.

Plaintiff Willie Margaret Y. is filing this Eliquis lawsuit on behalf of her now deceased husband Arthur Douglas Y., who allegedly died from internal bleeding injuries caused by his use of Eliquis. According to the Eliquis lawsuit, Arthur was prescribed this drug by his local Alabama doctor in February 2013 to treat his atrial fibrillation condition.

He continued to take this anticoagulant until June 20, 2013, at which time he suffered an intracranial hemorrhage “and sustained a life-threatening, irreversible bleed from the use of Eliquis, as well as severe pain and suffering, all of which culminated in his death on June 22, 2013,” Willie alleges in this Eliquis bleeding lawsuit.

According to the plaintiff, she “has endured and continues to suffer emotional and mental anguish, loss of support, loss of services, loss of accumulations, medical and funeral expenses, and other economic and non-economic damages stemming from the death of the Decedent, as a result of the actions and inactions of the Defendants,” the Eliquis lawsuit states.

The plaintiff brings several allegations against Bristol-Meyer and Pfizer, including claims of negligence, strict products liability, breach of express warranty, breach of implied warranties, fraudulent misrepresentation, fraudulent concealment, negligent misrepresentation, fraud deceit, violation of consumer protection laws, survival action, and wrongful death action.

Willie is seeking compensatory, economic, and punitive damages from Eliquis’ manufacturers, as well as payment of plaintiff’s attorney’s fees and courts costs, all totaling to over $75,000.

This Eliquis Lawsuit is Case No. 1:15-cv-04757-DLC, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

Eliquis Side Effects

After its initial release into the U.S. pharmaceutical market, Eliquis gained popularity as a more effective alternative to Warfarin that did not require constant dose adjustment or medical monitoring. However, a number of uncontrollable bleeding cases have been reported, in which patients suffered serious bleeding injuries from their Eliquis prescription. One of the reasons these bleeding incidences are so dangerous is because an Eliquis reversal agent currently does not exist.

Because of the lack of a bleeding antidote, the numerous patient injuries from Eliquis side effects, and because of Bristol-Meyer and Pfizer’s alleged negligence for failing to warn consumers of the alleged Eliquis bleeding complications, many consumers are filing Eliquis lawsuits.

Some commonly reported Eliquis side effects include:

  • Bleeding on the brain
  • Intestinal bleeding
  • Kidney bleeding
  • Uncontrolled bleeding
  • Deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
  • Death

The plaintiffs of these Eliquis complaints are seeking monetary compensation for pain and suffering, medical expenses, and other damages related to their Eliquis complications and injuries. Family members of those who died from Eliquis bleeding problems are also filing Eliquis lawsuits, claiming wrongful death and loss of consortium on the part of the surviving spouses.
