Stryker Hip Implant LawsuitA new Stryker hip lawsuit was recently filed in Minnesota federal court. The hip replacement lawsuit alleges that Stryker created a defective and dangerous medical device and failed to warn the medical community and the general public about risks associated with their hip implant device.

The Stryker hip lawsuit was brought to court by Pennsylvania resident Deborah K. and her husband Steven K. as part of the consolidated metal-on-metal hip implant multidistrict litigation. A multidistrict litigation funnels similar litigation before one judge, allowing for consistent pretrial rulings and avoiding duplicate discovery requests.

The Stryker hip lawsuit states that Deborah was implanted with an ABG II Modular hip stem on her left hip in January 2011. According to the Stryker hip lawsuit, Deborah suffered personal injury and economic damage from the allegedly defective hip implant device. The metal-on-metal hip implant lawsuit further alleges that Deborah was injured by excessive levels of chromium and cobalt in her blood.

Deborah is alleging claims for negligence, strict products liability, breach of warranty, negligent misrepresentation, and unjust resistance. Deborah’s husband Steven has joined the Stryker hip lawsuit as a co-plaintiff and is bringing a loss of consortium claim for loss of services and the loss of intimate relationship with his wife.

Overview of Metal-On-Metal Hip Implant Lawsuits

Studies suggest that thousands of Americans who have metal-on-metal hip implants could potentially experience serious hip implant complications due to the defective devices. Complications associated with metal-on-metal hip implants include dislocated hips, leaking of toxic substances in the bloodstream, cancer, degenerative heart disease, loss of bone strength, tissue death, non-cancerous tumors, cobalt poisoning, and early hip revision surgery.

According to several hip implant lawsuits filed against medical device manufacturers like Stryker, Johnson & Johnson, and Wright Medical Technology, metal-on-metal hip implants have a higher risk of cancer due to toxic substances leaking from the hip implant. Thousands of these hip implant lawsuits have been filed by patients who have suffered injury due to dangerous hip implant side effects, in both state and federal courts.

Awards and settlements from these hip implant lawsuits may help pay both past and future medical bills as well as compensate victims for the pain and suffering they have been forced to endure due to the defective hip implants. Lawsuits like these also help hold medical device manufacturers accountable for their actions and their products.

Whether or not a metal-on-metal hip implant lawsuit should be filed is a decision that should be made on a case by case basis with the advice of a legal professional.

The Stryker Hip Lawsuit is Case No. 0:15-cv-02742-DV, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota.
