GI-ProblemsA Benicar lawsuit was filed against Daiichi Sankyo after the plaintiff developed severe Benicar side effects which the drug manufacturer allegedly failed to warn against.

Plaintiff Lorraine C., an Illinois resident, took Benicar to treat her high blood pressure. While she was taking the drug, she suffered from sprue-like enteropathy, an intestinal disease, according to the Benicar lawsuit.

Lorraine also claimed that she developed a form of colitis as well. This caused her to suffer from “chronic diarrhea, weight loss, nausea, vomiting, malnutrition, and dehydration.” These Benicar side effects have led her to suffer from additional complications and require that she have regular medical monitoring.

Benicar was said to have caused Lorraine severe sprue-like enteropathy, a condition that results in severe diarrhea and other adverse side effects.

The Illinois woman is one of many to file a Benicar lawsuit against Daiichi Sankyo for failing to warn about the side effects associated with their blood pressure medication.

The Benicar lawsuit states that Lorraine “has suffered unavoidable, serious and life threatening physical injuries, severe emotional distress, and mental injuries in coping with her physical injuries, and has incurred and expended significant amounts for the medical care.”

This Benicar lawsuit, if successful, will help Lorraine win compensation to pay for the medical costs brought on by the sprue-like enteropathy and other Benicar side effects as well as to pay for emotional pain and suffering, time lost from work, and more.

The charges in this Benicar lawsuit included defective design, failure to warn, gross negligence, negligence, negligence per se, negligent misrepresentation, fraudulent concealment, constructive fraud, violation of Illinois’ consumer protection laws, breach of express and implied warranties, unjust enrichment, and punitive damages.

Benicar Side Effects

Lorraine joins many others who have allegedly suffered from unknown Benicar side effects. Millions of individuals have been prescribed Benicar to treat their high blood pressure each year. However, studies have shown that Benicar greatly increases the change of developing side effects such as sprue-like enteropathy and celiac disease symptoms.

It has been suggested that some patients were mistakenly diagnosed with celiac disease when in fact their symptoms were related to Benicar.

While Benicar diarrhea and similar side effects are not permanent, villous atrophy, which is allegedly caused by Benicar, can be.

Patients sometimes develop these Benicar side effects months or even years after taking the drug.

Patients may be able to file Benicar lawsuits against Daiichi Sankyo if they have experienced one of the following Benicar side effects:

• Severe and chronic diarrhea

• Substantial weight loss

• Electrolyte imbalance

• Sprue-like enteropathy

• Villous atrophy

• Other GI problems misdiagnosed as celiac symptoms

This Benicar Lawsuit is part of the Benicar MDL, Case No. 15-2606, In Re: Benicar (olmesartan) Products Liability Litigation, in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.
