xarelto internal bleedingA Xarelto lawsuit has been filed against Janssen Pharmaceuticals and Bayer Pharmaceuticals following the death of a patient. The patient experienced severe internal bleeding, allegedly as a result of Xarelto side effects, leading to in his death. This latest case is one of many where Xarelto bleeding has allegedly caused the death of a patient.

Plaintiff Danny J. filed the Xarelto lawsuit on behalf of his father and decedent, Tommy J. Tommy began using Xarelto to treat atrial fibrillation in Nov. 2012. On March 27, 2013, Tommy suffered from severe Xarelto bleeding, which led to his death. The Xarelto lawsuit stated that Tommy would not have used Xarelto had the defendants adequately warned against the internal bleeding side effects, which they allegedly knew about.

About Xarelto Bleeding

Xarelto is an anticoagulant recently developed to prevent stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation and to prevent blood clots in patients who have undergone certain surgeries. It was created as an alternative to warfarin, previously the leading anticoagulant for decades. Warfarin required patients to be closely monitored and to change their diet. As Xarelto requried neither, it was marketed as easier to use.

However, Xarelto has reportedly caused many patients to suffer from severe internal bleeding. Internal bleeding is a serious condition that must be immediately treated. If a warfarin patient experiences internal bleeding, a physician can give the patient an antidote. There is no such antidote for Xarelto bleeding side effects. Instead, Xarelto side effects must essentially go away on their own while the patient receives blood transfusions.

The Xarelto lawsuit claims that Xarelto bleeding is a very serious condition that the drug’s manufacturers should have warned against. Despite countless Xarelto lawsuits that have been filed against the manufacturers, there is still no black box warning on the drug’s label warning users against Xarelto bleeding. The drug’s manufacturers even changed the label as recently as one year ago, and yet the label still fails to warn against Xarelto’s severe internal bleeding side effects.

Counts in this Xarelto lawsuit include failure to warn, design defect, negligence, negligent design, negligent misrepresentation, breach of warranty, fraud, and wrongful death.

This Xarelto Lawsuit is Case No. 2:15-cv-00886, part of MDL No. 2592, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
