Baby powder makeupThe beauty industry is one of the most lucrative markets in the United States, where one form of marketing seems to reign supreme. Experts find that any beauty or health-related item labeled “All Natural” tends to be preferred by consumers when compared to competing items.

However, recent marketing reports are warning consumers that many companies may be mislabeling products as “natural” or “all natural” to increase the chances of making a profit. While consumers have right to be angry about being misled, some marketing researchers blame this illicit behavior on the fact that the label of All Natural or organic has become major a staple in marketing industry.

Overview of All Natural Product Market Demand

A recent market report published by Transparency Market Research titled “Organic Personal Care Products Market for Skin Care, Hair Care, Oral Care and Cosmetics- Global Industry Analysis, Size, Share, Growth, Trends, and Forecast 2012-2018,” which analyzed the overall global demand of organic personal care products. This organic and natural personal care products report estimates that $7.6 billion was made in this organic personal care products industry in 2012, and is expected to reach $13.2 billion by 2018 year.

Experts from the global organic personal care product industry observed that the demand for natural and organic products has risen in the past few years, reportedly due to the wide concerns regarding personal health and hygiene. Additionally, distribution channels for the release of new products has widened to include faster product development options, allowing companies to closely follow consumer demand. However, the all natural personal care products report also commented that limited shelf life, raw material supply, and strict regulations are still expected to delay the all natural product market growth for the next five years.

The most popular of all natural products among consumers is all natural skin care, which dominated the global market of organic personal care products in 2011 with a reported 32.1 percent share of the market. All natural skin care products are followed in popularity by all natural hair care and cosmetic products. The organic personal care market is worth billions in the United States alone, and is the largest market for organic personal care products, followed by Japan and Germany. Market experts state that other counties like India, China, Brazil, and Mexico are also potential organic and all natural personal care products markets, but have not quite jumped on the organic movement.

All Natural Personal Care Products Litigation

Despite all this market pressure to compete with organic or all natural products, it is still illegal for companies to misbrand or mislabel their products for the sake of making a sale. According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), advertisements and packaging must provided accurate information regarding its respective product, so the consumer can make educated decisions when purchasing. The Federal Trade Commission has penalized various companies over the years for false advertising, including last year when the FTC ruled that Macy’s, Sears, and Amazon.com had falsely advertised a variety of their products as environmentally friendly, when in fact the manufacturing process for these products involved toxic chemicals.

Ultimately, a company will advertise in the most logical way to sell a product, regardless if actually is organic or all natural. In turn however, the demand for the all natural entitled products remains, and is expected to grow for the next several years. Consumers who believe they were misled into buying a product because it was labeled as natural or all natural should consider pursuing an all natural personal care products class action lawsuit.
