AxironAn Illinois couple filed a testosterone drug lawsuit against Eli Lilly & Co. after suffering severe cardiac complications, which were allegedly caused by their testosterone treatment product, Axiron.

Plaintiffs Bruno and Monica B. claim in their Axiron testosterone lawsuit that as a direct result of using the low testosterone (low-T) treatment, Bruno suffered a mild heart attack.

Bruno was prescribed the low testosterone (low-T) treatment product, Axiron, on Oct. 15, 2012. His physician had believed this was an appropriate action for him.

Over the last decade, the number of men taking testosterone treatment drugs has increased dramatically, allegedly stemming from the marketing campaign of the Eli Lilly and other pharmaceutical companies that also make testosterone products.

These companies reportedly designed an advertising campaign aimed at middle-aged and elderly men, which described the symptoms of lowering testosterone. However, it has been recently pointed out that these symptoms are also associated with aging.

On Oct. 29, 2012, Bruno reportedly suffered a heart attack, which led him to be hospitalized. He was diagnosed with suffering a blood-clot injury, with the cause allegedly linked to Axiron. Due to this suspicion, Bruno discontinued Axiron on Nov. 15, 2012, and has now filed this Axiron lawsuit against Eli Lilly.

Even though the plaintiff survived the encounter, he and his wife are still wary of any lasting complications and remain vigilant to any potential cardiac complications.

The testosterone drug lawsuit states that Eli Lilly had the responsibility to warn their client and other low-T consumers of the potential complications associated with its product. Bruno insists that he never would have used Axiron if he had known about the possibility of blood-clot injuries.

For being allegedly responsible for manufacturing, selling, distributing, and marketing a dangerous drug, Bruno and Monica filed this testosterone product lawsuit against Eli Lilly. The charges include: negligence, false advertising, concealing information, and misrepresenting a product.

This Testosterone Product Lawsuit is filed as part of In Re: Testosterone Replacement Therapy Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2545, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

Overview of Testosterone Replacement Therapy Complications

Axiron is a topical low testosterone treatment therapy product, which was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Nov. 23, 2010. It is approved to treat men with decreasing testosterone conditions such as hypogonadism, or those who have a complete absence of testosterone.

It is commonly prescribed to men who believe they are suffering from testosterone loss after experiencing symptoms such as fatigue, decreased libido, depression, regression of secondary sexual characteristics, muscle mass decrease, weight gain, and joint pain. However, those are also several symptoms of natural aging.

There have been numerous complications associated with testosterone treatment products that have lead to numerous testosterone drug lawsuits. Numerous patients have reported blood clot injuries such as stroke and heart attack have occurred after using low-T product, without any knowledge of blood-clotting being a side effect.

In one of the most prominent studies regarding this correlation was published in the January 2014 issue of PLOSOne medical journal. The study found that low-T products significantly increased the risks of heart attacks in younger patients with certain heart conditions, and had increased the risks in elderly patients regardless of their physical health.

The authors of the study stated that the risks of testosterone heart complications were very low and that further studies were needed.
